1975 FoMoCo Passenger Car list prices (latest figures I have).
Top of the line models:
T-Bird = $7701.00
LTD Landau = $5401.00
Lincoln Continental Mark IV = $11,001.00
Lincoln Town Car = $9656.00
Mercury Grand Marquis = $6403.00
The 1977/79 F Series trucks from this period were $4800.00 for a stripper to $7000.00 for a loaded Lariat. Prices didn't begin to climb until the late 1980's.
Invoice was roughly $5400 for a loaded $7000.00 Lariat. I paid less than $5200.00 for my 1979 Lariat. That figure included all fees and transportation, and was bought at roughly $700.00 back of invoice. Just like today, the dealer invoice was not what the dealer actually paid.
Oh, okay...maybe it varies with the chassis type and location.
I was investigation and came to the colucsion that my '78 F250 Lariat was about 8k new.
MBB, the '79 Bronco XLT had its original window sticker, and total was $11,000.
I'm not adverse to that idea IF you would be willing to cover the shipping charges.

Yeah Western Star I agree / I've seen a lot of real nice trucks and good prices on Ebay from the N west. That I'd fork the money over for / but the cost of shipping is just a deal killer
Customs were bought by 1000's of construction companies and other businesses that worked them hard. Most were worked till they died. These same companies didn't buy fancy rigs. Bottom line: Today you will see more fancy rigs, because the plain janes were worked to death.
My Custom still has an "Asset Number / date acquired" plate on the ceiling above the windshield from Emerson Industrial Corp. Being that I need to repaint the truck, I'm happy not having to remove a bunch of trim. It's allready as "dentsides" as you can get.
My '76 custom was bought by my dad from the second owner in '02 or '03 I believe and it wasn't worked to death... Only 88,000 miles, and yes original miles. Roger (my truck) only has 104000 on him now.
I am the original purchaser of my 78 Ranger 4X4. It cost $6800 plus TTL. It is NOT an Ranger XLT. It is probably as much like a custom as it is like an XLT or Lariat. It has trim, but not race track trim. It has no panel on the tailgate, only a chrome strip at the top and bottom with the F O R D script painted white. It has rectangular headlights rather than the customs round ones. It has a wood grain applique on the glove box door and two tone door panels with two tone knitted vinyl seat. The grille is gray like a custom, but the surround is silver.
I am just now beginning the project to make it look new again. I bought the truck 30 years ago this November, so it is getting a 30 year anniversary makeover.
From what I read in this thread and what I am seeing elsewhere, the Ranger trim level is rather unusual, especially on a four wheel drive. My truck was mechanically well equipped when new with air, heavy duty cooling, heavy duty electrical, etc. It had no factory radio, so I added an aftermarket radio immediately after delivery and it remains in the truck and still works.
In my case, I will be putting my truck back as accurately original position but if I were in the original posters situation, I think I would add trim rather than take it away. My
I just bought a 1977 F250 Explorer 4x4 for $300 from a friend.
When I figure out how to post pics, I'll do so..
I'm curious about the trim package included for Explorers.
I think it's a lowboy, since the transfer case is in one piece.

No badging that says 'Ranger', but it was originally metallic green with white striping. This truck also has weird, lever-style hubs that I've never seen before.
Lots of work ahead of me, wish me luck, and any info is much appreciated.

When I bought my truck I asked the original why the fender emblems were differant{drivers side had ranger and passenger had custom} He said he never noticed it but he had to take it back to the dealer when he bought it to put the ranger trim on the right side ( drip rails etc.).To make a long story short, it went down the line with drivers side getting ranger and pass. side getting custom. And from what I here, it still happens today.
