I have a 2004 6.0 TD that in order to get the shifter out of park I need to really stand on the brake pedal. Then just realized that the cruise control won't disengage unless the brake pedal is pushed down hard. Not just the tap it took before. Are they related? Is it the strange switch up under the dash attached to the brake pedal arm?
Thanks!
Yeah, I think (not sure but it would make sense) that all the circuits that need a brake signal run off the same switch. So the two are probably related. Have someone see if your brake lights only illuminate when you press really hard on the pedal. My guess is that its either a failing or a misadjusted switch (since it still works)
I have a 2004 6.0 Powerstroke and it just started doing the exact same thing. I noticed that if you turn the key to the poistion just before "on" it releases the shift lever, then you can start it in nuetral. My brake lights work fine. I hope someone knows the problem. HELP!
The latest with this is that the brake lights are working fine and the cruise and shift lock out work normally if I reach under and fiddle with the switch attached to the brake arm every couple days. I figure it needs to be replaced (not positive but hopeful) but have not gotten around to it yet. The switch kind of pivots and maybe it is getting stuck off kilter a little bit. My favorite online parts place does not list it (or I can't find it) probably should call them and get one but up to my ears in other projects.
Just get it from the dealership. I replaced mine in 5min. with only a Leatherman tool. It cost me about $12 if memory serves me right. All dealership parts arn't that expensive and if you own an EX its just a little tough love to buy genuine BLUE OVAL O.E.M.. There is a weird clip/pin and 1 connector to remove/install. Just do it! Rich.
