Vanco Hydroboost
Like many, my tires will not turn at idle, even with the engine revved. Brakes go from hard to soft depending on driving circumstances. When rock crawling, the brakes will barely hold the tires from rolling and sliding down the mountains. In 4 low, you can imagine how next to impossible it is to negotiate tight turns.
I've tried a handful of Saginaw 808 reverse rotation, quick ratio, light valving gear boxes and destroyed them all. I went through a couple of PSC pumps on the PSD. I'm now running a 2006 F-350 gear box which i like best so far but it only works well when i'm moving. When braking and turning into a drive or parking lot i'm using both arms to barely get it to turn.
The steering seems lighter when i'm driving in reverse and the front is slightly uphill. I also tried a hydraulic ram assist cylinder which made absolutely no improvement. Steers slightly better to the left than to the right. PSC made me a custom Pitman arm and i had a custom Panhard Rod made so that my angles are perfectly matched, completely took away the bump steer on pavement. Used to rock the truck side to side when cornering.
If not the Vanco, has anyone tried just porting their hydroboost or using an aftermarket unit from another company? How much pressure do your trucks make before and after the hydroboost at idle and under load (trying to steer)? How many of you with diesel engines can turn your tires lock to lock at idle without increased steering effort? I'm trying to avoid having to add another ram though both Vanco and the diesel shop have recommended i find one. My box is already ported and tapped.
