Anyone ever heard of a kit that allows the hood to tilt forward on a 73 like is being done on alot of 50's F-100's ? Anybody ever attempted this? Would hate to spend time fabing up and tweaking something only to find I could get a kit with all the bugs already worked out.
Two or three years ago,Truckin`(R) marazine did an article on a tilt hood conversion on a pickup. They used the hinge/tilt mechanism from a late model Buick, with the"open from the cowl"setup.

I checked out the fiberglass parts a while back. A little expensive for my taste, but good to know someones making cabs for these trucks.
I cant remember where I saw this truck, maybe ebay, but I think it may be the coolest looking 73-79 Ford Ive ever seen. Of course its 4x4, although you cant tell by looking. This is what I call truck pornography. Oooo yeah.
Thanks for the replies. That fiberglass front clip is interesting; expensive; but interesting. My wish is to have just my hood tilt forward 90 degrees. My dream is to motorize this feature. Then I can have an artist buddy of mine airbrush a mural on my hood for a cool autoshow feature. That Truckin' article sounds like what I'm lookin for; guess its time to do some more searching.
Well I went looking for that Truckin' article. Didn't find it but did stumble across the fact that AutoLoc makes a universal hood tilt system for $189US.
The part you are looking for to "motorize" the tilt forward of your hood is called a "linear actuator". Think of these like a mini hydraulic or tractor type cylinder (though they are not). A quick search on google should bring back plenty of info. Desert race guys use them all the time to raise and lower the lightbars above the cab.
Also - any compitent fabricator should be able to make the hindges for your hood and set up the linear actuator with no problems. It's not complicated at all...
Raising and lowering lightbars ????? Now there is a cool idea for the strobe bar I'll be installing. Thanks for the ideas and the suggestions. I've heard of those actuators just never thought about using them. Great info
Dale can you send me some close ups of your fender cuts ie the edges and your hidges. my email address is in my profile tahnks AL I'm the one doing the smooth 77
