Evenin!! Sounds strange but my 78F150 S/Cab 4x4 with 32:11.50 x 15s' on chrome spokes with 32lbs in all four has started being almost impossible to turn to the right at low speed or when parking. Turns to the left just fine with 2 fingers but have to rev up and put my shoulder in it to go right. Full of fluid, re-tightend belt, box look to be fairl new. Could just be worn out ps pump , but wanted all of your imput fist. This is the friendliest site i've ever been to and I thank any of you who respond in advance.

It's been a couple years since I've had a steering gear box apart, but there is a valve system in there if I remember right, and it could be that the valve is hanging up for the right turn power assist. If it was the pump, it would be hard either way you turned, because it just pumps fluid to the box, the box is the only part that would "know" which way you were turning, other than the stering components like the others have mentioned.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
Sounds like your power steering unit has worn out, plugged up,
or jammed valving. This can cause no power steering assist
in one direction. ( it's not the pump if one direction works )
After stuffing my '96 into a hole at high speed while pre-running in the desert, the steering wheel was a 1/8 off center. after a few weeks it kept getting more and more off center till I couldn't turn right at all!!!! Ford replaced the steering box under warranty and all was fine. My guess is something internal in the steering box.
Pretty strange about the ball joints. I was under the impression Ford used king pins on all 4 wheelers starting on the Bronco in '66.
Is it possible to use kingpins on a 4x4 that has an axle with U-joints going through the steering knuckle where the kingpin is supposed to go through? I only thought they used kingpins on 2wd's. My 78 has balljoints. The only thing different from this basic design that I have seen were on the old landcruisers that had the ball and socket set-up.
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
Your steering problem is in the box. Mine lost power to the right but was fine to the left last year. It was one of the 4 seals around what I think is called the spool. I bought a seal kit at NAPA and took care of it. It's not too tough a job if you follow the instructions on how to reassemble.
