ok my sisters b/f said his 99 7.3 just shut off when he merged onto the freeway yesterday...well he replaced the cam position sensor and thought it would be fine and then today he said it would sputter a little and than eventually shut off...when he pulled into work it shut off again when he put it into neutral...his dad is taking it into the dealership tomorrow to try and figure it out but i told him i would come ask you guys so his dad can go with some ammo!! thanks in adcance
I have heard of people getting bad new cam sensors. I would try one more, and then start looking into other problems. You might also try posting this question in the 7.3L section.
i would double check to make sure the cps is placed on correctly or as stated try another cps its only, what $25 bucks ...last resort dealer but im pretty sure other ppl will have better advise...
My '99 would do similar things. Even threw a camsensor code. It turned out to be a engine harness issue. Driver' s side engine harness was routed over the engine lift eyelet and chaffed a wire or wires , and would short causing the engine to just shut down while driving or not start at all. cheap easy fix, it just took patience checking connections. Good luck.
THANKS RYAN!!! alright ill print this thread out and give it to him...its just he is in WV now and his truck is here...his truck has aroud i wanna say 120k...ill post back around tuesday when i find out the verdict when he gets back...for now i guess i just continue to miss my truck and enjoy driving my sisters jeep
