i am wanting some inputs on which injectors to put in a early 99 psd. i do a lot of towing and get 23mpg on the hwy and want to try to keep that im looking at some stage 1 ddp injectors or a set of swamp S/175/146 injectors any other input would be great.
I've heard good and bad about Swamps... Moreso bad than good. I wouldn't spend my money there.. I do however like dynomite diesel peroformance (ddp), BWD sells them i believe...
What are you looking to do with your truck? Do you plan to upgrade the turbo? Do you want to keep it mild, or go big power? You will need head studs if you are planning on 40psi. If you go over anything than small stage one injectors, i would upgrade the turbo.
Id say if your not going to upgrade your turbo some AC codes, or stage 2s should do the trick. Like strokin said, go with Beans Diesel or Dynomite Diesels injectors. Seems that everyone who buys from them is happy. I bought my EBPV delete from Beans, and there customer service is top notch.

Check out the stated dimensions and the pics of the early 99 vs the 99.5 intake boots and plenums here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/631407-i-want-600-hp-6.html on posts #77-79, and you'll see why you need to upgrade the complete air inlet path on an early 99 to get much good from new injectors. You'll also need an upgraded HPOP to go with the injectors, and the intercooler isn't as good on the early 99, etc... I looked at going that route on mine several years ago, but the $ added up too high and too fast to make it worthwhile for me.
How is the intercooler different? The IC tubes are the same and the boots are the same between the early and late 99? Isnt the intercooler the same?
According to a Banks flow test I saw years ago, and I also read on dieselstop site, the early 99 has more restriction than a later 99.5, but I can't recall the exact delta psi vs CFM #'s. I believe if you check with Ford, they have different part #'s, and since Ford updated the rest of the air inlet system in going to the larger 99.5 turbo, it makes sense to me that they probably did something to the IC as well. If you find out anything post it, as I'd like to know also.
Hmm, im gonna try to look this one up and try to find a answer.

Here is where to check on my location https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/627517-wheres-the-northwest-passage.html Post #14 there is where I am, and the pic there shows why. Tues, we depart for Duluth, MN, and plan on staying there for 2 weeks. At our age, we don't travel and flit around like youngsters, it's more like a slow migration from one spot to the next. Since we don't have anyplace special to go, we're in no hurry to get there! Anytime I come across 70's by day and 50's at night in July, that seems like a good place to stay put for awhile, especially if it's got WiFi.
