My son has a 2000 7.3 psd (of course) HE cleaned his air filter. (K&N) and a few days later, he said his truck fell on its face, idled rough, blew black smoke... barley made it home. He shut the truck off, then restarted it, and it ran fine. he replaced the fuel filter to be safe. He went out that eve, no issues, then the next day he has the same symptoms. There is no ryhme or reason, no running time parralels. It just starts stumbling and a small amount of black smoke out the exhaust. Also when the issue is hapening, the check engine light comes on yellow. When it runs fine, then engine light goes off.... HE did have is Camshaft positioning sensor done by Ford a while back.... I might add, his programmer is Edge (Juice with attitude) But, he isnt chipped up while the issue is happening.
I think the Airfilter is coincidence.... I told him to start checking wiring, and clean the grounds.... But I am not a diesel guy. Any help or direction would be appreciated...
It is probably under the valve cover plastic connector that controls the injector and glow plugs has come loose... see the following thread for more info.. and how to fix it.. (reading the fault codes would help) https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ck-shakes.html
I appreciate it... He is on his way up to my buddies shop right now. They will plug it in to there diagnostic computer, and I will be posting the codes directly. Thanks again.
Have him check the air filter. Just because it was just cleaned does not mean something is not wrong there. Have him check the inside of the tube going from the air filter back to the trubo. Any junk in there that might be causing a restriction? Any dirt in there?
He should be able to use the edge to read his codes for future reference.
