I have the 6 disc changer and it just went out for the secoond time. I was wondering if there is a good place to get a new Ford unit? I reallly like the 6 disc option. I have not looked much at aftermarket as the ford unit suits me just fine. Plus, I dont see a huge selection of in dash changers and dont want a changer under the seat.
I was going to suggest eBay as well, as the cost from ford really isn't cheap at all. I prefer aftermarket stuff from pioneer. I used to have the indash 6-disc, replaced it with one with the capability of playing MP3s and WMAs, burnt a new disc with all the songs that I actively listen to, holds a lot more than 6 disc by far. I also have the iPod adaptor with it, but rarely use it, still just use the disc in there or the radio. Long trips the iPod is nice.
fleabay. I got the 6disc indash changer for $35+ shipping. It works great and was an easy upgrade for my 99.
I have a 99 also. It only has am/fm. it was a previous work truck. Would any of the factory cd units plug and play with the harness that is already in the truck or would i have to change stuff?
So, better off to get a new head unit, pioneer or something good, and maybe go with an Ipod? I got this same suggestion from a buddy at work today. Keep the tips and advice coming, trying to decide which to go with.

I agree, but as I get older I find I am listening to talk radio 99% of the time. I did add the MP3 plug, but never used it. Same reason I never added the subs. Only so much bass can come from people talking.

Mine had the am/fm cassette/cd. You just need to make sure the plugs match up.
99-03 interchange pretty well. I forget how the part# match it up, so just be sure of the plugs.
ebay for a used one man. New units are between $400-600. It'd be a whole lot cheaper to get a nice aftermarket head unit with a changer if you can handle that route. Check Ebay though.
Found a few on ebay, decent price. I cant believe the lack of in-dash 6 disc changers out there. It's like they dont make them anymore. I dont want to reach under the seat to change discs so an external changer is out for me. I really like long trips and not changing cd's too much. I found the new ford unit for around $600+, ouch that is crazy. I could have one heck of a stereo for that money. If anyone knows of an in dash changer aftermarket let me know, I have been searching for hours.
If that's the case, get an aftermarket Double Din radio with MP3 capability. One disc will hold 100s of songs. You can organize them pretty well and use the CD Text feature of the radio. I like the way the stock setup looks. The gauges are the only things I have added differently.
That is what I did in my truck. I hard wired an FM tuner, and installed a dock. It would charge my player while it played my songs. The only time is used it was during testing. I have since removed everything.
