godblessmud- No 1970 Plymouth Superbird, or 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, came equipped with factory installed air conditioning. Why- because of the limited grille opening and the obvious concerns about overheating. On the Superbird, the opening was under the nose cone, on the Daytona it was a small grille right on the front of the nose cone. Chrysler deleted A/C as an option on all the winged cars, plus no A/C on Hemi or 440 6 BBL cars because with the multipe carbs, there was no room for the RV2 A/C compressor.
you could still get the dealer installed add-on AC package at most dealerships (they wernt neccesaraly supposed to, but they had to sell those cars somehow.)
note. not all dealerships would do this.
That's why I said factory installed. What was done at a dealership, or Sears, or Montgomery Wards, etc. is impossible to determine. However, I've seen numerous Superbirds at local Mopar events, and not one had dealer installed or aftermarket A/C. And, as you know, stock Daytonas and Superbirds were prone to overheating in warm weather, so I doubt that someone would be very happy with an aftermarket or dealer installation. Even my 1970 Coronet R/T with the 375 HP 440 Magnum and factory A/C will tend to run a bit hot in warm weather, this was common with Mopars of that era.
So my Superbird with dealer installed A/C is very rare? My dad and I are only the second owners. The original owner had the dealer put the A/C in for him.
