Sonnax info

Several years ago I installed the Sonnax kit. At the time I remember that the instructions included with the kit said that the valve would have to be replaced after so many miles. Does anyone know how many miles that is? I trying to convince the wife I need get the BTS valve body. I'm trying to get as many mods in that I can before she bans me from coming to this site again. Also back when I got the Sonnax a lot of people were talking about the Factorytech accumulator whatever happened to this and how does it compare to the BTS?

I do remember something about miles of useage on it and thought it was kind of retarded as driving around town it going to put a lot more wear on it than freeway. I'd say it was like 4000 miles or so just to get a new VB from BTS, I installed the transgo kit and it is a HUGE improvement over the sonnax. The sonnax works well, but the Transgo worked that much better. I believe BTS uses the same parts from Transgo in their VB as well. So you really could just save a few bucks and order a Transgo kit and install it, pretty much same install as sonnax only with a few more springs and calibration plate.

HERE is a thread that I started when I switched from the Sonnex to the BTS valve body and some of the first impressions I had from the change.

Mileage on the sonnex kit??? Are they refering to the springs? I just used the piston and did the Transgo kit with it. I'm not sure what more BTS can do with the valve body. I'm quite happy with my set up. That is until the cheap hardware fails.

It's every 36,000 miles (if worn).

Go here and read the disclaimer info at the bottom.

Thinks for the info it was just what I was looking for. I have about that many miles on the sonnax right now, so I need to tell the wife that I need to get the BTS before the tranny blows up. Also is anyone using the factorytech anymore?

I still need to take the sawzall to the exhaust and tell her it caught on something on the road and got ripped off so I can get the 5inch. She is not so understanding of the need for moding these trucks as some wives.

I think a lot of wives are like that. I like your way of convincing her that you need to fix your truck.

I am getting ready to order the BTS vb. My sonnax is good, but it has close to 30k on it and it is getting really annoying with all the in town driving I do.

Its great when I am heavy on the pedal and I stay in od. But with all the stop and go, i think it needs to go.

That was my problem with it, the stop and go driving light footed yielded some awkward shifts to say the least.

It is well worth the $50, even though it killed my dying tranny. I just wish i would have known about BTS before the Sonnax. But at the time, the sonnax was all the rage.

What don't you like about the sonnax for stop and go? I am in need of a tranny mod, and was considering this. I don't do much stop and go. maybe 1 time a week when i go to town to finish up my need to do list.

You can really feel the shift into OD. The warmer the tranny gets, the more you feel it. In a lot of stop and go, it can get annoying quick.

Mine was the occasionaly delay between 1 and 2, then it would grab hard and go.

I agree with everyone about the in town stop and go shifts. Also with the harder shifting once it's warm.

On open road and in the throttle it works great. The shifts are firm and smooth, not muddy or sloppy.

Would I install another one? Probably not as I would go with a BTS VB and I still might.

Scott, I am just waiting for BTS to email me back. I am not in that big of a hurry, so I am not gonna call. But if they email me a nice quote, I don't see how I will be able to say no.

Then I'll just have to muster the courage to do the install myself. The last time I opened my tranny was to install the sonnax. Shortly there after, it was in the shop getting a new tranny installed, DOH!
