The tapping part was the hardest part of the install for me. I was wishing I had gotten the clamp type by the end of it, but many here have said they had no problems with that part at all. Now that it is complete I am glad I got the tap type. I don't think that there is a big difference in performance of the two. Call Diesel Manor and talk with them, they were extremely helpful to me. Even saved me money on shipping. I can concur with BDDrummonds, the kit is VERY complete and the directions and diagrams are very good. I got the a-pilar set up and it was very straightforward.

Thanks

I appreciate the input, all is welcome. I think I will try the clamp from diesel manor they seem user friendly enough.

If you are looking for budget gauges check out these guys http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/
I got a pillar and three gauges (boost, egt, and trans) for about $200 and install was pretty simple.

This poor guy just wanted a chip, and all of his PMS victims are giving him the disease.

Ill be the first to say sorry, its not out fault, its the truck, but ill apologize.

I got 3 gauge pillar gauge pod and a 2 guage instrument cluster pod. If your getting 2 gauges go with the instrument cluster pod IMO. If i was a manuel i would have gotten it in a heatbeat. Im auto so i got the standard pyro, trans, boost on the pillar. On the cluster i only got fuel pressure for now.

WOW! Thanks guys. Like John311t said there is a lot of responses but that's how you learn. That's why I love coming to this forum. I appreciate all the info and I will be checking out the websites mentioned. Question? I didn't really see a true opinion on wether the tap or clamp EGT sensor was better than the other. Any takers?

You are still going to have to drill with either sensor, the drill and tap can be put in the up pipe close to the manifold, if you are not comfortable drilling the manifold. I like the drill and tap over the clamp, that way IF you ever want to remove your guages to sell the truck (oh, the horror!) you can just put a 1/8" npt plug in the thermocouples place. you can also do this with the clamp in but then you are going to have to tap the pipe anyway. they are both acurate in their readings.

The very most important part about tapping for the pyro is to *NOT* run the tap all the way in. And go in a few turns, then back it out. Go in a few more turns, then back it out. Spray with WD40 or oil or whatever, then go in some more. Just don't run it all the way through. Once you get close to the last few threads of the tap, you've gone far enough. I just kept pulling the tap out to test fit the adapter. It fits nice & snug -- no leaks.

I mounted the pyro in the manifold. Was real easy if you take your time. Like Izzy said just go 3/4 turn and back out, go a little more and back out. Use some WD-40, and keep the tap clean and lubed. For the tap and drill bit I went to lowes and on an end cap near the power tools, I found a tap and drill set with the 1/4inch NPT tap, and letter R drill bit.
