I have a 99 PSD with 4 inch lift and 35's, and just recently did the following:
- Added Dipricol Optix gauges
- Added the Tymar intake
- Added the 6.0L Transmission Cooler (After I had the Transmission rebuilt)
- Ordered a external filter kit for the transmission too.
I have noticed that my EGT's have not been higher than 800 Degrees, even when towing. Can I continue with Tunes, or should I absolutely first do the 4" Exhaust?
Also I need some advice on what tuning package to get. It seems DP Tunes are highly regarded, the question is which package?
I do not intend to race, or go to dragstrips. I am towing a 7000 lb boat, and would just like better towing power, and wake the truck up a little, and of course better mileage.
I would do the exhaust first or at the same time for sure, the 60 tow is from 8-10klbs, 80tow from 4-6klbs generally speaking, the 60 tow is what I bought, if you just want one tune get the pcm flashed for $75, or go full meal deal and get the chip. I got no start, stock, 60tow, 80econo, and 120 race, cant wait
I will only say that the DP tunes are great for towing. I do not recommend the reflashed puter because the first time you drive it unloaded in the 80 or 120, the switch will never again be in the stock setting. I don't care who you are. There is no turning back. BTW, just get a muffled 5" exhaust and be done with it. Yeah, you will hear about straightpiping it but the MKO mufller does not inhibit performance in any way that I can see. Don't setle for a flashed PCM and wonder or be stuck there. Order the chip with a couple settings and you will be hooked.
Man I tow my Downeaster dump trailer with a bobcat skidsteer Combined weight around 12000 in the 80 econo setting without any problems. Just gotta drive like you have half a brain.
