Memory erase?

I just visited the tech folder and found the thread dealing with erasing the KAM via battery disconnection. What I am wondering is if I returned the truck to stock and drove it for lets say 1,000 miles would this also achive the memory clearing simply due to lack of cumlitive stroage space. Or does the memory still hold bits of info that can only be deleted by active battery disconnection. Also, how many times over the life of the truck can the computer deal with flashing, erasing, re-learning, etc. Is there a point that it will reach where it gets messed up?

I can't answer the part about the KAM holding bits of information. That's been a seriously debated topic from the start. The KAM has 3 capacitors that hold a charge for I don't know how long, and the proper way is really to disconnect the batteries and discharge them.

As far as flashing and reflashing I'm sure there is a limit as to how many times that silicone layer in the PCM can be burnt, but I know Matt has reflashed his PCM at least 1000 times and it's still cruising right along. I've reflashed my truck more than 100 times and no problems.

Reave1, I hope to hear more on this one as well. I bought my 05 off of a dealer and they said that it had previously been tuned and I am wondering if it has ever been disconnected and if the truck still has glitches from the tuner or if it is really stock. Anyone with input on this it would be greatly appreciated. I've also changed tires from 35's to stock and am wondering if disconnect would help relearn of trans or if it occurs naturally over time.

Mike--the only way to know what program is in your PCM is to let the dealer read it or reflash it. The TCM has a self adaptive strategy and will learn shifting on it's own, although there is a procedure in the tech manual at the start of this forum. If the tire size has been reprogrammed the dealer will have to program it back since the TCM will NOT learn that on it's own. It has to be told that as a known value from the start.

FWIW I would kindly ask the dealer you bought it from if they could reflash it to the most recent flash and you can start over. The dealership software wipes the PCM clean of all trash codes--you won't even have the P1000 code you get when disconnecting the batteries which will cause a relearn sequence but NOT a reprogram sequence. I'm sorry if I made this as clear as mud, but keep asking questions and I'll keep answering til someone better shows up. Hope it helps.
