Engine Lift plates

Has anyone used the lift plates that bolt to the top of the intake? It looks like a pretty useful device but i don't like the thought of hanging a 600lb engine from my aluminum intake manifold.

Engine Lift plates

Lift plates are a modern marvel. They are prety handy espacially if you have a lot of high dollar pieces on your engine you don't want scratched by chains. I personally recommend you don't try to install engine and trans with them but if installed properly, they will handle a stock big block with no problem. Make sure your carb studs are fully installed and the plate is snug to the manifold. I also like to use thick flat washers under the nuts to help spread the grip to the plate.

Engine Lift plates

ExplicitHP, I just used one to pull a 460 from a van as space was very critical getting it out. It worked fine holding the big 460. I did not use the carb studs. I pulled them out and put grade 8 bolts through the plate into the cast iron intake with flat washers under the bolt head. It was very secure and did not offer to bend. Just make sure you get the bolt length right so you don't bottom the bolts out before they get tight. Will be using it again shortly to set the motor in our truck.

I used the carb plate to drop in my 351W with the C6 tranny attached. I have the Edelbrock aluminum intake and no problems whatsoever.

Used it to pull the 351m, remounted on the 460 and shoed it in, both have alum. intakes. No problems. Did use bolts\washers instead of the studs. Also makes a great intake cover when working in or around the engine bay.

Why buy one when you can build one.Two pieces of angle iron welded together. Use a base gasket for a template and drill some holes and away you go.

I used one on my 351W but i used grade 8 bolts and used all 8 holes on the aluminum intake for mounting. It worked like a champ as space was cramped.
