HCFM Drain Plug Quick Question

Hello

I recently purchased an IH replacement drain plug and I have a question concerning the length of the plug. The new plug has a tail on it and I am concerned that it may impede fuel flow.

Thanks

It works and where it sits is not in the "flow" of fuel"... but down in the drain or "catch area" of the HFCM.

Many are using (as I am) and all is well.

Wink

The tail holds it in place while draining H2O or fuel and it is easier to take out/break loose too . . .

removing the old style plug is a little difficult for me. the front drive shaft is in the way and I cant get it out with a screwdriver or socket. Does this mean I will have to remove the driveshaft to remove the plug?

You can either drop the driveshaft or take the HFCM out and work with it on a bench. The amount of labor is probaly about the same.

I bought this kit and pulled the unit, as my plug was stripped also. Mike

OTC part # 7361.---$10.00 dollars + tax
2 pc set with 5/16 and 3/8 disconnect.
plastic disconnects

Did you remove your HFCM? If you did, was there any foreign materials that you found when you took it apart?

Yes Sir,

I did remove the HFCM. I loosened the three mounting bolts, uncliped the lines and slid the HFCM out between the driveshaft and the body towards the front.

I had one small particle of foreign material come out of the unit when I cleaned it. I did not remove the side plate for the cleaning, just the cap. Mike

Reidicus, you should be able to use a regular L shaped hex wrench, unless your plug is stripped. Like this

If it is stripped some people have been able to use some JB weld to attach the hex wrench to the plug. Others have used a cutting wheel to cut a straight line across the head of the plug and use a screwdriver. And some others have hused an easy out bit.

M. Kelly- When you removed the HCFM to replace the drain plug....did you have any problems with fuel leaking out of the lines or air getting the same? I have totallyn stripped my HCFM drain plug and didn't know you could just take it off and then torture it on a bench!
