Several questions?
I'm also going to have my glow plug system checked out. I know that you only want to use the BERU from Germany plugs, but where do you buy them. AutoZone, OReillys, NAPA?
I've been having trouble starting first time every day and recently I'd even start to have trouble after a few hours of sitting. I never rolled the starter longer than about ten seconds, but I wore it out with all the trouble starting.
The reason I think I need to replace the O'rings and low pressure fuel return lines is, I replaced the line from the pump to the first injector on the driverside. It was dry rot and seeping fuel. I'm sure that I sufficiently disturbed that first injector o'rings. Plus if that line was dry rot I'm sure the other lines are in bad shape too.
Please help with best way to get the return line kit, starter, and glow plugs.
Thanks.
mwfi.com sells a complete return line kit (a.k.a "injector install kit") for less than $40.
I dont know the best place for a starter though......
My mechanic said it's possible that the selenoid may be bad, and I can jump it off across the selinoid connections. My driver side battery is fried and my mechanic said that the selenoid sometimes causes that.
What is the best battery to put in these trucks. Mine is a '92 F-250 7.3l IDI. This is my first diesel and I've always just got what ever was cheap and handy.
Farmboy after reading your suggestion for the injector return lines, wouldn't any autoparts store have this item? I think that I was just not telling the guy at the store the part name that was easily looked up in his computer
Anyways, check, maybe they do have them.
Ford, although more expensive, should also be able to help you there also.
Napa has a lifetime warranty Mitsubishi gear reduction starter for a little over 300 dollars.
Also you have to pay a core of 125 if you don't have your old starter when you buy the new one.
Napa part number 44-6265
Since I just installed my third free starter two weeks ago, the price is great as is the warranty.
I get about 2 years out of a starter, so the original starter I paid for was 8 years ago this summer.
Autozone is the best deal going for glow plugs, Motorcraft/Beru ZD9
For batteries, you need big ones.
Minimum cranking amps 850, more is better if you live where it gets cold in the winter.
Starters draw between 200 and 300 amps depending on the one you have.
Glow plugs draw about 200 amps to heat.
A dead battery on one side will also kill the starter.
Also since all the power comes in and out of the batteries through the passenger side, you will find that battery will die first when it is time to replace them.
Don't forget to get a cap, rotor and new wires to go with the spark plugs.
If you are going to do it, you better do it right and replace everything.
