Aod, E4od, C6?
Jason
HOW DOES ONE REBUILD AN E4OD WITHOUT REMOVING IT FROM THE TRUCK?!?!?
HELL, MOST OF THE SEALS AND GASKETS ARE ON THE INSIDE AND CAN ONLY BE CHANGED AFTER THE "GUTS" COME OUT, SO HE CAN'T EVEN SAY HE IS RESEALING IT!
The pump comes out the front where the torque converter is and so does everything else as far as internals are concerned!
Let's see, without removing the transmission from the truck you can access the 2 valve body gaskets, band piston bonded seal, the oil pan gasket, the shifter lever shaft seal, and the end housing gasket and seal!
That's only 4 gaskets and 3 seals!
And as for what he would miss, there is the pump gasket and outer seal, the torque converter to pump seal, the 2 reverse seals, the 2 forward seals, the 2 direct seals, the 2 intermediate seals, the 2OD seals, and the 2 coast clutch seals!
Not to mention missing any bad clutches or seriously worn one way clutches and thrust washers!
That is 1 gasket and 14 seals he would miss by the fact that "he wouldn't remove it from the truck", and to pull those parts the trans MUST be separated from the engine which would be removing it from the truck and the only thing still bolted up would be the trans cooler lines, everything else must be unbolted!
And as for only spending $250, adding any hard parts to the seal kit would push that over $250 real quick!
And if a seal had hardened causing it to need to be replaced, it will cause damage to the aluminum surface it seals up to meaning there will be HARD PARTS REPLACED!
My rebuild cost cheap at about $400 and that's with a "free" torque converter left over from a rebuild (years ago) that never happened!
