Studding Tires....DIY?
I'm wondering about 2 things:
Can I stud my own tires, or is there a special tool required?
Can used tires be studded, or must they be brand new?

yes and yes, just basically an airgun that fires the stud into the hole. If you have a compressor and about $100? you can do it yourself.

If you try to stud used tires it does not work so well usually. For one tiny stones and junk in the stud hole and second the holes rip and the stud comes flying out when spinning the tires after studding a two year old tire.

Studded tires may be used between October 15 and May 1 on commercial vehicles whose total loaded mass does not exceed 3000 kg and on passenger vehicles and taxis, provided these vehicles have studded tires on both ends of an axle and, if they have studded tires on the wheels of the front axle, provided they also have them on the wheels of the rear axle.
