Does anyone have a good (SAFE) method for cleaning the engine compartment? I had a fuel leak at the fuel water seperator and now I have alot of oily dirt all over the engine compartment. The only engine cleaner I've used in the past was GUNK and it left my engine covered in a whitish powder. I've seen pics on here of some of your engine comparments and you either know how to clean them or you never drive them Thanks in advance.
Simple green or greased lightning and a water hose, NO POWER WASHER... cover alternator, ps cap to prevent water damage. Spray either one all over the engine compartment then just rinse and repeat until desired results.
simply green and rinse off with hose, no power washers. take care not to get the power steering reservoir, alternator, battery or air cleaner wet. just use a plastic bag to cover these items up.
I cover ever thing mention above.and I have always used nothing but a pressure washer to wash any engine.. I even use the soap dispenser on the pressure washer to spray the simple green in...I have a little 1500 psi pressure washer that I always use to clean my truck inside and out...it isn't the pressure of the water that hurts the sensors...steam on the other hand gets into very tiny little cracks and shorts out a sensors..I also use electrical grease on all my sensors..
Thanks guys, that Simple Green is simply awesome! I covered everything as suggested then sprayed on the magic. I just used a garden hose and was amazed at how much came off on the first rince. I reapplied a couple more times and the vast majority of oily mess is gone. I only have a few small spots where I'll have to apply some elbow grease with the cleaner. You guys made what at first appeared to be a very ugly job alot of fun. I was so happy with the result I had to do my first mod... Kwiks 6637. The bug has bitten me
LOL, no he sounds like a very nice southern gentleman, and his wife sounds sweet though. I was telling my wife that I may want to start riding around in a Darth Vader helmet. She just looked at me kinda weird. She doesn't get me.
the DARK SIDE we are referring to is that whenyou buy a diesel POWERSTROKE engine, you are going to start putting all your savings into modifying it and spending lots of money on cool performance upgrades, like an intake and exhaust and chip-tuner(DP TUNER made by Jody tipton)
WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE!!!!
