I just bought a 2000 F150 4X4 it appears to have 4 wheel antilock brakes with the abs light lit. I checked the code and it is coming up C1096 hydraulic pump motor open circuit. where is this? and how do I fix it? I am new to this 4 wheel anti lock system as I have always had older trucks with just the rear anti locks and no hydraulic motors. Thanks for any help on this.
A good place to start looking is right at the connections at the abs motor. You will see a red and black wire going into the motor. If when you look at those wires where they connect to the motor(the round part below the module)you see any signs of corrosion such as green dust you probably have a broken wire right there. I have fixed the positive wire 2 years ago on my 01 f150 and just recently, the light came on again and this time the positve and negative corroded apart. Sometimes its hard to see because it can be under the factory shinkwrap. If you find a broken wire just clean it up and solder it back on to whats left sticking out of the motor. It would be a good idea to use shrinkwrap or something to keep the corrosion at bay. Make sure you disconnect the battery while doing this.
