Putting in 1948 f1 windshield
I have not installed any glass on these older trucks...yet...but I have installed windsheilds in my 79 F-150.
The rubber must be installed on the glass first, then wrap some heavy twine or thin rope around the rubber and glass starting and finishing at the same corner. Make sure the twine is placed between the outer seal and the inner lip (in middle of the rubber gasket) position the windsheild in the opening and have a helper place moderate pressure on the glass edge with their palms at the corner where the twine starts/ends.
Begin pulling the twine slowly and have the helper continue applying pressure to the glass following the leading edge of the twine. (it may also help to lubricate the twine with wax or a bar of soap prior to wrapping it around the rubber).
Once you think you have the windsheild in place and twine removed to the starting point make one more pass around the outter edge of the windsheild placing pressure from the outside and listen for the last pop then the windsheild should remain in place.
This has worked in the past for me but someone else may have a better solution for you.

freekoneJust finished a 1948 ford f1 everything the one above this is done almost as I did, except I put my string in a solution of dishwashing soap and water, let it set till string was completely saturated. Wrapped it twice around, starting and ending at the top. Had a bottle of same solution in cab with me, sprayed everything down with it, taped painters plastic to dash, so I wouldn't wash the back side & front of gauges etc. Had friend apply pressure to outside of glass, not to much, as he followed the string going around. Kept it spayed soaking wet. It went in like a charm. You start at the top of glass, and work around, don't rush it, but it goes pretty fast, all together, putting string in channel, placing glass center, working string around, about 30 min. First one I ever done. They wanted $150 at my local glass shop, just to do this, man, now I've done it, they really rip people off.

My wife and i did both front and back screens on my '56 .
I found the BBW more difficult than the front screen , maybe just because i was afraid of breaking it .
Rear took us 10 mins to install , front screen was about 5 mins .
Just make sure to use plenty of soapy water and it's easy peasy .

I did my 53 both front and back myself, with no helper. To be honest, I was scared to death of breaking it. When I removed the front, it already was broken and the PO had given me a replacement.
but...it took me about 30mins for each and all are in with no issue. Also, it was much easier then I expected...I used the same rope method as described already.
