the beauty of a diesel right? haha take a 7500 lb truck and make it beat a 4000 lb muscle car.. by the way how much does that really weigh?
Never had it wieghed, but my guess is probably a little less than 4,000. 3,800? I should have said the car WAS a factory 440 car, I built a new engine last year with some non factory parts and some aluminum to reduce wieght. The engine builder that did the machine work estimates it to be a little over 500hp. I have not takin it to the track, and I'm not sure I will. It's more of a street car. And I have some serious traction issues. My guess, with some slicks and tuning this car should get in to the 12's, so most of the diesels won't beat it, but there are some out there that will.
I would proably agree with the fact of the small hourse power gain between a dyno run with a clean DPF and without a DPF at all, but the DPF is a self cleaning filter. The pcm reads the pressures which trigger's the regen cycle. How much hp is lost when the DPF is lets say 80% pluged?
My truck has gone into a regen cycle while pulling a grade with a load, and it sucks, the boost cuts back to around 25PSI + or -.
So my point, i think the actual potentional hp loss is much higher than 1hp with the DPF.
Just my .02
The trap was over half full at the time of dyno testing.
Damn thats fast! Like I said, there are guys with trucks much faster than my car, but most (not all) of the diesels I see on the street don't stand a chance.
SuperchipsMike - I'm surprised at the minimal gain from removing the DPF - primarily because it seems so restrictive.
Were there any positive benefits that were noted on the dyno run, such as a torque gain? Is this a situation where the mixture becomes richer from removing the restriction, and to see HP and mileage gains the chip would need to be reprogramed to provide less fuel?
I had the exhaust shop install them back into the system in the orginal spots. Didnt know what else to do with them. No pics or vids yet, been to busy to set 'em up.

Well, i just might have to try it myself, was gonna wait for a tune to disable regen, but what the hell.
