Have a 2000 f350 auto PSD with 54k and truck started idling rough when hot (operating temp) and idle seems higher (900-950). Also when this occures throttle is touchier and smokes for exhaust easier with less throttle. Pulled codes and got two 1211 and 0603. Ok if sits for 15-30 min. One guy a talked to thought poss. harness connections under valve covers but local ford parts man thought that wiring was for glow plugs only. Hard to say but may be cranking a rev. or two more prior to starting. Any info before a trip to the shop?
Your code 1211 and 0603 are normal if you have a programmer or similar device.. Your local ford parts man is half right.. the 9 pin valve cover connector is for the glow plugs and the injector firing.. Your can check with a ohm meter when is acting up (hot in your case) and check for the proper resistance.. .. My under valve cover connector was just plane loose and loosing contact and would cause the engine to have a rough idle.. Removed the driver's side valve cover the made a shim to slip behind the badly designed plastic locking tabs that hold the connector together.. Pass. side was ok but just about as bad.. Been good for 4 months now.. But, i got a P1316 fault code on mine..and a SES light..
Here is the link to the ohm check.. see post #4.. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...ight=GGIICIIGG

You can ohm out the injector harness from outside the VC at the connector located on each side of the y-pipe where it attaches to the intake manifolds. If you have to remove the VC for repairs plan 4 - 5 hours for the first time.
Also check and make sure your ICP plug is tight. This is the round tube looking thing sticking out of the head on the front valley side of the head. It is right behind the hard supply and return lines for the fuel bowl. the connector has three wires in it and it may be loose.

Haven't checked yet. Will try to do some of these checks this afternoon late after work. Scheduled the truck for a diesel shed shop tomarrow a.m. if nothing turns up. I'll keep you posted. The only other possible cause, maybe, is that this truck had a fire in the cab (d/s dash) about 6000 miles ago and I have to wonder if anything was disturbed or not installed correctly. As far as I know it was contained in the cab. Truck started and ran even befor repair. Are there any connections in cab or firewall area that could cause this. Thanks for all the info and keep the it coming!

Main PCM connection is made thru the firewall right behind the E-brake pedal, Its the large black box.
Dropped truck off at shop and caught tech. attention with the wild loaping . He was kind enough to put the scanner on it and mentioned something about a code for low injector oil pressure reading. I didn't push him for more so I'll have to wait till towmarrow. My have to call him in the a.m. about the PCM connector possiblily. Update to come.
Tech called today saying found new codes and leading him to believe that injector o-rings are bad-did a buz test? So saying all new injector o-rings for $650.00 with diag. can't touch till two Fridays from now. Called local ford dealer (only ford dealer) and for closer to $1000 dollars they can do it Sat. Tech is puzzeled why o-rings would need replaced at 54k. Makes me wonder if at last oil service (walmart with rotella syn.) weather the truck was started with no oil in it causing air in the sys. and then a surge of press. causing prob. Tech is interested to see what things look like when apart but my guess is it will tell us very little as to the cause.

Get the codes from him, and post here. If truck was started w/ no oil, it might have fired and then died, but would have taken what seemed like an act of God to restart again after that. Oil drives our injectors, No oil= No run. large amounts of air in HPO system would have taken a loooong while of cranking to get it running.
He pulled same codes I pulled with my programer. 603 and 1211. He did a buzz test and all shows ok with elect. side of the inj. system. Now he goes on vacation as of this afternoon (which he didn't tell me when setting the appt. or when dropping off). So I picked the truck up and took it to another local diesel shop. Gave them the info and they also think inj. o-rings sounded odd at 54k. They're gonna start from scratch on Tues. or earlier.
