i got an early 99 psd and was wondering if its time to replace the hpop? i have 198000 on it and seem to be losing power. i would also like to know what pressure i should see from the pump, before i replace something that i dont need. is it true that a 2000 and up pump has more volume for my injectors? im running stock everything exept 85 horse diablo and 4 inch pipe and intake. im only asking because i cant get my egts above 800 on a good 10 minute pull with a load. seems to be losing power. any insite would be helpful. by the way...i already checked for clogged filters and changed oil. thanks.
I have 99-1/2 that I changed the oil Pump on. I replaced the stock #15 with a #17. I don't know the exact details of the #17 pump but was advised to do the upgraded pump because of the Injectors and Turbo I had added to my truck already. My understanding is that the upgrade or #17 pump will help on a stock application as well. It creats a flatter TQ curve in our motors..I noticed immediatly a power difference in my truck. Pretty much across the board. Looking back though, I should have done the Big double pump instead. I am running stage 3 Hybrid Injectors along w/BB Turbo and custom chip so the Big oil/dual pumps would add even more power to my application than the sinlge #17 pump. The dual type oil pump "Terminator" is in the works as we speak. Maybe some of the other guys,FN250, kwikk, Neal or Ryan will come along and give a few more details on this than I can. I do hope I've helped yah some.. Country
What kind of pressures are you seeing out of your HPOP now? I can easily maintain 2600 psi, but that's with the double pumps. Still, on a stock chip setting a single pump with stock injectors should be able to maintain well above 2000 psi and more along the range of 2400+ psi.
The later pump is a 17 degree pump like Country pointed out, and yes you are correct that they flow more volume of oil. The degree of the pump has to do with the angle of the plate that the pistons move around. The 17 degree pump has a steeper angle to it than a 15 degree pump.
You need to get the pump pressures you are running now. I have an e99 and when i finally got AE i went to record the pressures, i could only maintain a max of 1700 which my duty cycle maxed out, that was with a 15* pump. Im going with some bigger injectors in the future, and with 1700 on stockers, i would not even see a benifit to those injectors. So i got a smokin deal on a 17* pump, and installed it. Now my pressure is at 2700PSI without the duty cycle being maxed out. I did see a huge difference in pumps, less smoke, and on the top end it pulls harder(above 50 mph). BUT my egts are still being lower than i excepted, i can run the hottest tune i have(TS 140+) and it take me some time to get the egts up to 900*(post turbo), its kinda nice but i know the power isnt there.
Check your pressures, if you can't hold above 2200 psi you may want to invest in a new pump. I noticed a difference. Are you pulling a 1211 ICP lower/higher than expected? I was before and since the pump change never seen it again.
Country, you have a late 99, it should have had a 17* pump, e99 and OBS had 15*.
Hey John, You might be right. I didn't check it when it was removed. I had to take it to Mech to have it fixed because I was to busy to do it myself. It was replaced with a brand new pump 17, and I did feel the difference. In hine-sight, I should of waited for the stealth pump, but I use my truck for work also so I got it done as quick as possible. I got the new pump the same day as opposed to 1 week for delivery for stealth. Oh well runs good. Country..
I saved my 15* for a dual hpop setup, my long time goal is for when its paid off, i will prolly put the dusted forged rod motor to the real test. We will see how that turns out...
Your old pump was prolly really weak, its a crap shoot on HPOPs.

I would check fuel pressure under load first.
The way these trucks are designed it's a strong possibility that the pickup screen in the tank and/or the filter screen in the inlet side of the pump are clogged and reducing overall volume which will let it run all day long. But as soon as you need some power, the volume is not there. It's one of the possible causes of your low EGT's.
Let me just add that with my truck and stock tune I can push 1150 degrees on a hill pulling the trailer. With the Diablo Predator Tow/Haul it will easily hit 1300, overcome the wastegate and drive the boost up to 27 psi.
I have the AIS air filter and a 5" exhaust.
After that kind of mileage the Hpop is definately worn. The strongest pump is off of a 2001. If you get a new pump be sure to specify that year model. Should feel like a different truck.
I just bought a new 17 degree pump for my early 99 that can only hold 1800 psi on a 100 hp predator. My question is how to get the lines disconnected from the pump itself. I hear that you have to make a tool or something?
Hmmm. I would also be very interested to know, because as I have said, mine will set a P1211 on my 80 econo setting on my DP tuner... and I only have 80 000 KMs on the truck ( 45 000 miles )
How long would it take to swap pumps? I'm looking at doing the swap if I can get a 17* fairly cheap. Is this part number for a e99 or 99 and up- F81Z9A543CRM- it looks like an e99 (the F8) but I could be wrong. Thanks for the input!
