2.3L questions

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-May-02 AT 01:07 AM (EST)]I have been kicking around the idea of building a prerunner from a ranger for the last month or so. After watching Trucks today I have been bitten by the bug and want to make these dreams a reality.

For the engine I would like to use a 2.3L--more than likely a turbo'ed one from a mustang/t-bird/capri etc... Would these engines work well for this application? Were any of these engines not fuel injected? It would seem that they would be easier to swap into a ranger that origionally had a carbed 2.3. Call me old-fashoned, but I would much rather have an engine with a carb rather than a fuel injected one...

I have many questions, but I'll save some for next time so that I don't overload the server....

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I forgot to specify that it's going to be 2wd--if that matters.

2.3L questions

The 2.3L turbo came in carb and EFI form. The EFI models had quite a bit more punch. My first car was an 86 Mercury cougar XR7 with a 2.3L turbo, T5 and 3.55 posi rear. It was almost silly how quick the little 4 banger got it moving.

You should have included "stock" in that phrase...
I know of a carbed 2.3 that's running under 11's
in the 1/4...

Many years ago, I had a carbed Turboed 2.0L in a
'72 Capri, which was about 1300lbs lighter than
your old ride, once I had it fully sorted, it ran
in the low 13's...
