2000 Silverado, A/C kinda comes and goes. Will work fine every time getting into the truck, but after a while, it seems as if the compressor doesn't engage, air coming out of the vents gets warmer. A/C isn't much my thing. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I haven't worked on any 2000+ Chevys, but, on the older ones, under the hood near the heater box it is called
(using the terms from Advance Auto) "Factory Air Heater Control Valve" or "Heater Control Valve".
You might also have a direct vacuum feed going directly into the heater box which feeds directly to the HVAC controls on the dash (like that on my Impala). You can take a brake bleeder and apply vacuum from under the hood to it just by disconnecting the hose.
I'm not sure with the 2000, but on models with the hose on top of the engine going from the accum to the compressor to the cond, these things leak. I have replaced several of them. The fill valve leaks and is not replaceable, you have to replace the hose, a hundred buck item.
The orifice could also be contaminated with junk, or is icing up due to moisture in the system. jd
Got the gauges, indeed, it was low. The leak, best I can tell, is coming from one of the valves on the upper line. I've charged it for now, going to find one of those valves, drain the system and replace it.
