My f150 at 40 mph now is getting a squelling noise when accelrating only. Very light noise ( may be the beginning of trouble) but if you maitain speed it goes away. If you barely touch the gas it starts and will get louder as you press the pedal, and lighter as you let off or go steady. Does not do it under 40mph or out of gear. This standard has been good - 92,000 no problems. Worried about this cause we have some long distance driving coming up, but don't want ripped by mechanics. Help...
welcome to the site Ritracker. If you have a tach you can see if the trans is slipping with some math. Check your vacuum lines as well. Other than that I've got nothing.
i was thinking torque converter slip - transmission also. the vacuum hose would be a good idea, but should also be present when out of gear or not moving.... the converter would only act up when slipping such as under acceleration. at crusing speed or stopped it would not do it. i thin i would change the fluid and filter and see what happens.---- not a flush, just a simple filter and partial oil change.

Sounds like he's got the 5-speed and not the automatic.
