I usually am on the superduty forum but my future son-in-law wants me to go look at a used 2004 F150 FX4 for him this weekend and I need some quick info. He is looking at this for his landscaping business and needs it for towing a trailer with equipment or sometimes loaded with sod. 1) How can I tell at the car lot what the rear diff ratio is and 2) if it has the factory towing package. Neither of these very important pieces of info are listed on the truck. Thanks in advance for a quick response please!
OK never mind on the above questions. I found what I was looking for in a couple of searches. However, I would like to know if there are any quirks or problems with this year model/setup (2004 F150 FX4) that anyone can tell me to check for when I go look at the truck today.
Well 2004 was the first model year, and it did have its fair share of issues. Personally? I would not buy that year (I did... and traded that thing as fast as I could). Certainly there were many sold that were 100% fine, but not mine. Test driving it is the only way. Have to take it up to like 75mph, looking for even the smallest hint of a vibration. If there is, move on.
If you can have someone run a Oasis report on the truck it will tell you what work the dealer has done on the truck. They may have taken care of most of the issues that some of the 04s had??I know a couple people who have 04s and haven't had any real issues with them. It's kind of hit or miss.If you test drive the truck make sure there are no driveline vibrations or shimmies or clunks(when up or downshifting).
