I own a 2002 7.3L F350 dually and am looking to get more power when I am towing, as I live in the U.K. there is little or no info available. I am not looking for quick of the mark acceleration, this is a working truck and as it does alot of towing I am having problems with the transmission staying in a lower gear on steep hills. I have had a K&N cold air induction kit fitted as I understand this is the very least you have to do. I have been looking online at after market bolt-on programmers, that release more power from the powerstroke.
i.e. banks products, bully dog and edge products. I am at a lose as to which is the product that will fit my needs. As the truck is near enough standard it has only the gauges it was first fitted with, and I am a bit concerned with fitting anything to the truck when I cant monitor the effect it is having on the engine. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation
Steve
Welocme to FTE. There are a few things that you can do. 1st ditch the K&N we have a member or two that have suspected that the K&N was responsible for the early demise of their engine, lets too much dust in. A lot of us are fans of the 6637 filter. Inexpensive, great filtering, and flows a ton of air. A 4" turbo back exhaust will help you out also. Where you do a lot of towing a valve body will help out. A set of aftermarket guages to moniter the trans temp, exhaust temp and boost are a must. Then after all that you want to call DP Tuner for your "chip" they will custom program a tuner for you that is based on the mods that you have on your truck and how you use your truck. They have tunes that are set up just for towing.
^What they said.^ Welcome to FTE. All the info you could ever need is right here. Do some searching. Do yourself and your truck a favor and DO NOT buy anything other than a DP Tuner from Jody.
