Question I must be missing something

Okay, I drove to town to pickup a voltage reg. ,on the way back I threw my serpentine belt and just made it home.(I was only about 2 miles from home) The thermostat was just starting to rise when I shut it down but it started boiling when I shut it down. I've changed the reg. (it started smoking when the engine fired up) When I stated the truck it started pouring tranny fluid out of a hose on the bottom pass. side. This is my question, is there anything that could seize up that would cause it to throw the belt? I've checked everything from alt. to water pump and they seem to be fine.I'm guessing that the belt wiped out the connector hose to the tranny although the belt is still in 1 piece. I hope I'm not forgetting something really obvious because I'll only have enough tranny fluid to do this once (it's 30 miles to town)

make sure none of the pulley's are siezed up or wobble. also look closely at the vacum pump and tensioner. Belts don't just come off unless there is an issue.

sure they do maybe a widget has moved in, they are nasty little critters, hard to find and even harder to run out, look for him, he's small and fuzzy , usually pink in color, he hides beihnd water pump pullys and vaccum pumps, he's been seen on occasion pulling things into the path of destruction so look out.if you can grab him throw him into a rice rocket and run like hell

Thanks TJ, I think I've checked everything but it may be that I didn't replace it squarely when I re-installed my alt. Thats all I can think of other than punching it a bit on the trip home.

????? the alt or the belt? the it could jump if the belt was off a rib but usually that can be seen after you pick it up off the road, did you replace the alt and then have the problem or were you on the way back with parts in the truck?

I had the alt. out to replace brushes ( they didn't have the reg. it had to be ordered) I drove approx. 62 miles before the belt let go. The belt still has 6 ribs left so it should make it in to get a new 1 plus a new reg. ,plus coolent, plus extra tranny fluid. gee,,,, I'm really glad I'm saving so much money on this repair it may just about equal out.
