Timing gears vs. chain
I am starting to accumulate parts for the winter rebuild on my 460. I am at a crossroad as what to use, a double roller chain or make some noise and go with the gears. I've heard different arguements on the subject and would like to hear some more. The most common one being the noise. The other is that the gears tend to bind and you actually lose some horspower because of this. Anyone else want to chime in?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Aug-02 AT 06:16 PM (EST)]The gears are a bad idea, a true double roller timing chain will have immeasureable stretch, and will not rob you of HP like the gears will. In small block engines, the gears are especially bad, as they will cause even more pronounced power loss due to gear bind. Save the money and stick with a roller chain setup
