Replaceing timing chain in 460

I am replacing the timing chain in a 460 in a 76 F150. I would like to know if there are modifications that I should do that will improve performance or efficiency. What would people reccommend?

A mechanic recommended that I replace it with a chain and gears from a 429. But the crank sprocket is too large a diameter for the 460. Does anyone know it this changup is possible?

I would replace the stock gears(aluminum/plastic) and chain(flat link) with a good double roller chain set-up. I don't know what the difference is between the 429 chain and gears and a 460's as they are basically the same.

Hi, Listen to the mech. The 460 crank gear has retarded timing built into it. Switch to a aftermarket double row roller timing chain and gears.It will wake the motor up and gain back some ponies. 429 & 460 are the same block .I'm sure the only difference is the stroke on the crank. Do yourself a favor, call Summitt Racing , for about$50.00, get a good double row roller timing chain and gears and get probably the biggest horsepower gain per dollar spent that there is around.Also, you won't be changing the timing chain and gears for a long,long time.Most aftermarket parts are better than factory.Enjoy the new ponies, Alan
