Is anyone else having a problem with brake squeal? My 05 with 18000 miles is squealing badly. Not just the pads lining up as is the case sometimes, but a mega squeal all the way through the breaking cycle. I looked at them and everything looks fine the rotors are nice and flat, no lines or gouges, and the truck stops great. I also had ford look at them, and they couldn't find anything worng either.I should mention that the pads look brand new also. Thanks Andy
the pads/rotors could be glazed. take a look at the rotor and if it has a glossy look to it than its glazed.
theres 2 ways to take care of this.
the quicker way is to have a shop true/cut the rotors. if the pads are worn then go ahead and change the pads (yourself or have the shop do it)
if the pads still have a good chunk of life still left then after you get the truck back from the shop go home and lay some sandpaper (not to rough of a grit) on a flat surface and slide each pad back and forth on the sandpaper until you can see that the pad has been sanded down evenly.
If the truck has a vibration when braking than you need new pads because if the rotor is warped than so are the pads
another way to De-glaze the rotor is to use some sandpaper (use some reasonably fine grit not the really rough stuff)
and sand down the rotor (both sides) until glossy-ness is gone.
use some brake cleaner to clean the rotor and pads, if you sanded down anything, before reassembling.
if you put new pads dont forget to pump the brakes BEFORE driving the truck.
i had an issue with my 03 there was some malfunction in the break system and the pads were always touching the rotors and a few lockups ford ended up replacing everything. rotors, drums, calipers, master cylinder. FREE
