Yeah, you're right, the next time he comes in, I'll just meet him at the door, and send him away (because my acute sense told me he had a tuner). That way I wont have any time in it. Then deal with the rep when he comes down and asks why we refused service. Or how about just turn the other cheek and warranty the work, then get out our wallets and pay for the parts ourselves, because you have to send in defective parts for Ford to inspect. They'll charge them back to you! Then we can wait until this next visit by the same thief, complaining that we didn't fix his check engine problem (usually getting louder and louder in front of other customers) Of course his light isnt on now, but you have to fix it. You're at friday, on a 40 hour work week, you have 19 hours at the time, 3 visits by this creep (at roughly 3 hours each visit--no pay) and he walks in the door complaining---now what? And yes, it does happen that way!
Tear into his truck find out that the tuner is the problem then hand him a bill for shop time and send him on his way is all you need to do. then do what you stealership guys do best, label the truck a tuner truck so he's black balled and your done dealin with it. Then when he comes in again you tell him it wont be under warranty as his trucks a tuner truck. If he throws a fit let him or send him to your dealer manager and have him discuss it. I would get loud with you to in front of customers if you were tryin to keep my truck for a couple days for some bullsh1t excuse. Those are the facts of life, you treat somebody with blatent disregard for their well being as a loyal customer and your generally not gonna have a happy camper on your hands. If you dont like the way the job goes then quit, I personally feel that your ideas on charging money are misconstrude and wrong and i would think ford could stand a better chance without that kind of attitude. On the same token i understand your a "Blessing" to these guys here and many seem to appreciate your ways(Must be an east coast thing) So in that regard thanks! But you and I will never see eye to eye on this subject so we should leave it at that. We'll agree to disagree.
As soon as it tears up enough where I have to tear into it to diagnose, I will! Until then, I guess I'll have to take it in the shorts using your logic! Oh, this is not a loyal customer, hes transient, didn't buy here, doesn't spend money here. And for the record, show me word for word thats what I do, not what my options are.
I cant say if he is a loyal customer or not but your logic makes me wonder if you treat all customers like this. Its kinda scary bro. But like I said, were gonna never see eye to eye on this so were gonna just have to agree to disagree. Some live by the law of the jungle others live by the law of man......
Sounds like somebody needs to remember where there paycheck comes from.
No customers...No check...
Be glad he comes to your dealership....Treat him right and you may play a part in him buying a new truck some day...Treat him badly...You can bet he wont...
Another dealer will get his money....
Your challenge is to learn how to turn an angry or wrong customer into a happy customer..
It pays big buck when you figure this out....
I for one do not care if you get it or not....My income is secure....Is yours....
You are really putting your self on the line here with your post...You never know who is here...Who is looking....Do you not think Ford and Dealer owners check this site out...
I for one can give you about 10 people from Corp. that are on here.....
Might want to watch how you talk about customers!
I agree with vloney here too. I used to work at a dealership and the idea that the dishonest customer is trying to steal warranty is wrong. They are stealing form me the tech as stated above wasting my time trying to fix something without the whole story is useless. and if I can't find a problem as a result There is nothing wrong with sending them home and waiting for them to come back. He did not say he didn't look for a problem he just can't find one based on the information that has been presented, so in around about way the customer is screwing himself. As for as legal action that takes forever and cost alot of mo0ney speaking from experience our judicial system is a joke, unless of course your a crook. As far as turn the other cheek- mess with the bull and you get the horns.
F6guy- Might wanna re-read your FTE guidelines, legal advice/talk/bashing is a no-no
Not to mention that your talk is irrelevant to the conversation. What your saying vloney never said nor anybody else. Nobody ever said he didnt look for problems thats not the topic here. re-read the issue at hand and come back and give it another shot
Mess with the bull get the horns is a bar fight term. Just another example of law of the jungle and being childish.
Hey jam, there is no money coming from him! And I do know this site is monitored (have you requested an oasis lately?). The logic is this: customer comes in with driveability issues, preliminary diagnostics shows no problem, interview customer "no power, check engine light", no check engine light on, test drive with ids shows all perameters in spec, pid for miles since cleared (25), KOEO,KOER,KOEC, all clear, re-interview customer "no tuner, never had one", at this time, 45 minutes invested, perform diagnostics by symptom (low power, loss of power), fuel quality, fuel pressure, fuel inlet restriction, boost pressure test, blowby test, egr valve position test, all no problem found-2 hours invested. Tell service writer, NPF. Customer told "no charge". Back next 2 days, each time customer has new complaint, "turbo fart", perform boost pressure test, vgt actuator test, manually operate vanes, NPF. All available courtesies shown. Each visit, obvious tuner signs shown. Each visit "no charge".
funny, you mention rereading posts because I do not see anywere in my post were I dispensed legal advice I as stated above was voicing my opinion based on personal experience. As far as childish bar talk I would like to see you take a screwing sitting down. The customer is bringing said actions on himself. you answered your own comment, I never stated that anyone said he did'nt look at it, I was pointing out that if he stated he didn't look at it and just sent the truck back out then he could possibly get in trouble with his superiors, but he did not say that and therefore has done nothing wrong. No customers no pay check? how do you make money off a customer that pays $100 for 2 or three hours worth of work. After the hurrican I have seen so many people get raped by shady buisnesses, workers, just people in general trying to take advantage of the system and good hard working people that I personaly will not put up with a thief, period. I have had a waiter steal my card number and pay their phone bills with it, 2000 dollers worth. The phone company wisley would not give up the names of the perps, after I was reimbursed by the phone company and my bank the charges by me legaly were dropped as I was no longer considered a victim and they got free phone service and can now rip someone else off. It is the same thing just a diffrent senario. I try to live my life by new testiment guidelines, but I am not perfect and all knowing, I just prefer not to walk around bent over.

"Mess with the bull get the horns is a bar fight term. Just another example of law of the jungle and being childish."
disappoints me powerstroked162, you need to take the "cowboy steve" out of your signature cause every real cowboy I know, myself included, loves a good fight and we still do live by the law of the land............I can tell you I am not above jerking somebody up right quick if they need it.
Yeah, I have been whipped a few times fer jerking up the wrong fella, haha.....but I have give as good as I got a few times too, its all in good fun.
Its these modern yuppy punks that had rather shoot you than take an a$$ whippin that scares me nowadays...............
Anyways man, if your gonna call yourself a cowboy, you gotta promote bar and corral fighting.............come on now
one last comment........so you can better understand my philosopy......There is only 2, maybe 3 ways to get a mans attention really:
1. Hit their pocketbook - and I do this to the guys that work for me when they screw up, it costs me & so it cost them, I promise you payroll deductiom gets their attention
2. Fat lip and a black eye, yep, works everytime. They will think twice next time.
3. Well this one I better not mention on this forum, might come back to haunt me.
Guys, I mean no disrespect to either of you...but getting personal can be done through private messages...not on the open forum. Lets get back to the topic in a civil manner please. Thanks.
If there was no problem found, then there is nothing you can do...and if the customer's truck is tuned...then he needs to be a man about it and fess up and pay up.
Way off topic gentlemen. Not even worth my time responding as Im sure Admin is monitoring this thread an will be doing some clean up.
Off topic but must be said. A cowboy isnt about being a child and getting in fights. Its about respecting your ma and pa, being a man, standing up for what you believe in and workin a hard days work. This philosphy would make most americans cowboys. The way of livin by the law of the jungle went out in the days of billy the kid and wild bill. Its all about bein a man my friends, not fightin a guy cause he looked at you wrong or slappin some people around cause you dont like them, that is childish and if thats the way you expect cowboys to be then you better just stay were you feel comfortable cause you wouldn't fit in up here, were the cowboys are men and not kids.
Vloney if you'd like to continue this convo we can in a private message.
Please let vloney, who is the subject matter guru on this, speak. He is trying to tell me and others to consider several things when moding your truck. I want to continue to read his advice as it saves me (Ford customer) and him time and money. The folks in the service industry consistantly have to decode, read through the lines and distill down the customers version of what the problems is. Any more words of wisdom vloney? Several of us are still reading this post with anticipation! How about a final thought on tuners from your perspective.

Have no questions on a persons ability...
My only comment is that it appears people in the service industry appear to have forgotten who pays them....While this guy may have tried to taken advantage of the dealership that can be used to turn him around into a new truck without insulting or saying he is a thief.....I think we should filter (me included in this statement) what we type. We need to think how it will be perceived. We all know that perception is reality in our minds.
Any way I have gotten off the subject and the last I have to say on this matter......
The high performance industry has changed over the years. Where we would put on headers, glasspacks, cams, carburetors, and have a pretty good street machine, today they have made it where you push a few buttons, and instant horsepower. The base problems are still the same, extra horsepower=extra heat=extra stress=extra wear=extra failures. I am seeing more and more people wanting to go the easy way, and not take into consideration the metalurgy part of it. In the 60's and 70's we did the same modifying, but took the extra steps in balancing, blueprinting, heat treating, forged parts, extra main bearing bolts. Today the "deer in the headlights" look when something goes wrong, is the start of it. The expense of these vehicles plus the cost of repairs, are not readily thought out fully. The aftermarket companies push the extra gains for less money aspect of it, with no mention of downside (just very small print). The young kids with not much money are the ones that get hammered. They are usually the ones that are looking for a way to fix their own mistake, for as little cost to them as possible. Although I feel sorry for them, you can't make someone else pay for your mistakes. I dont mind someone wanting to modify their vehicles, Hell, I've been down that road, just be aware of all sides of the story, and do it right, if you're going to do it.
