As time goes on and more people leave Ford because of the well documented problems MAYBE they will wake up and improve their product. One can only hope.

I was wondering what you were planning on using to tow that travel trailer shown in your profile?

I am a PROUD FORD owner, but I spent a good month or so researching my next truck, a 2002 F-350. I had a friend who had just bought one, so I got all the straight dope from him to Avoid buying a 03-04 Powerstroke, the first generation 6.0 I kept my search to pre 2003 and knew from visiting this forum the value of the 7.3 INTERNATIONAL engine. I am very sorry you got a dud 04, there are many guys on here with the same issues. You could have traded it in or made FORD do a BUY BACK and got a newer 05-07. Good luck with the TUNDRA, I own a 1998 4x4Tacoma as well. best small size pickup, ever, and def better built than the competition!

thanks Toyota Hauler
at the time i bought my 04 it was early in the year 04 and there was no bad press on them yet. like all new trucks it was talked up. so i bought it.
for most people it would'nt be that big of a deal getting stuck but i'm parcially dissabled. i broke my ankle, leg and dislocated my ankle and it stayed that way over night. now the docs at harborview want to take my foot so walking really isn't a option for me. i have 5 screws in my ankle and six and a steel plate in my leg. like you i have had great luck with toyota so it naturally is my best bet for trouble free driving. i really don't care about what others say about it. as far as having a picture in my profile of my truck anyone can pm me and i will send more than one of it with my trailer. since some still think i never owned one.
it's funny that so many people will dog pile on you for bad mouthing something you owned but never read my first post or that i said i loved my super duty.
this whole back and forth is stupid and i won't play the game anymore so to those who want to pick me a part go ahead. to those who actually had said something nice or gave a little support thanks again.

I totally agree with you all have there lemons i just ended up with one.
this time i made sure and bought the extended warranty 100k bumper to bumper
if i don't need it great but if i do then i have it.
it was 1,100 and i wish i had done that with the ford.
new tundras come with a 3 year 36k bumper to bumper and a 60k on the running gear.

The 6.0l had there share of problems. (More than it should have) I say its because of the explosion of the diesel demand over the last several years and just wanting to get the diesels out the door. (Ford is the most popular choice around here)

No doubt Toyota or anybody will have problems or changes when a new model comes out and after. The company just needs to TRY their best to keep it from happening by design. All car companies and etc. need to do a better job IMO.

I for one have not seen many new Tundras around. They look like decent trucks but theres no way I'd pull even 8,000lbs with one.

The only problem with foregn cars is working on them and getting parts. I was working on a friends Nissan and had to get most of the parts at the stealership. Not to mention their set-up is different than the americans. After having to work on the Nissan I am less apt to stray from Ford.

Ever notice that newer vehicles don't have the problems they used to have years ago but they do now have problems now that they used to never have? Of course vehicles DO go longer now than they ever did but with the amount of money spent on engineering they really shouldn't have the bonehead mistakes. Example #1 spark plug blowout, it seems that they forgot they were dealing with an aluminum head? #2 6.0 ERG, vanes sticking ect. Dodge: good motor, bad lift pump which will kill the injector pump ect. All could have been avoided. My last work truck was a 1981 F250 Utility 351M C6. Gutless (overloaded) horrible MPG, C6 slipped going into 2nd but you couldn't kill it. Was it better than my 05 F350 Utility 6.0? No The general upset should not lie with us as a group ( die hard Ford fans vs. previous Ford owners) but with the designers. The solution to this problem it seems to me is competition i.e. Nissan, Toyota getting into the game. We don't have to buy one but maybe enough people will to further the care involved with people farther up in the food chain.

Your problem is (or was) you purchased a PSD truck when you didn't use or need one.

35K miles in all those years tells me you either didn't drive it much or you made a lot of short trips. Neither of those are good for a diesel engine, it needs to be driven and worked on a regular basis.

You should have purchased a gas engine for your truck needs.

Also, Astoria Ford and Pt. Townsend Ford? Your kidding, right? Neither town is much bigger than Mayberry, I'm surprised they even had a service department that would look at a PSD. Titus Will is a big dealer, but even back when I lived in Olympia (1987-1996) I was warned not to go there. From what I understand that has not changed.

Good luck with your Toyota. I wish you peace and happiness.

got the best cell service for my area if you don't know where hurricane ridge is it's in the olympic Nation forest sorry no cell service up there.
the closest ranger station is 17 miles at either end.
so please don't tell me i need a better cell service that's just being dumb.

as far as the EGR read all my post not just ones you want and you might find out that is not what i had ment when i said i had to pay. i had ment that i had to pay out of pocket on the first go around when i had to have my trailer towed and my truck. yes insurance covers that but not when the guy says you bill the insurance and i bill you. so please stop with all the bickering it's not helping anyone figure out what is wrong with the trucks.
do i wish mine had not done what it was doing yes.
will i miss getting stuck no.
I only pull my trailer maybe 6 times a year at most.
i use a class 4 hitch with 10k weight dist. bars my trailer weighs in at 7.4k and even if i fully loaded it and i never do it would only be around 8k so i'm in the ball park. i don't need to get up grants pass at 70. 55mph works for me

Yeah i know those towns are small but they were the only ones that were close. next large town is sequim from pt towsend and from astoria! more than likely portland is the closest. and you know how far that is. that was my whole point it left me stranded more than once in the sticks. i guess i would't have been so p.o if it would have happend on i5 or 512.

the first egr valve went out last july or august that is when i had 35k
traded in the truck with 47k
make lots of trips to centrailia and monroe.
the bad part is the stop and go through seattle tha's not good for any motor.
I was at the time inbetween needing a 250 and a 150 so i decided to be safer with the 250 since the 150's at the time would not pull that much. that was my reasoning behind the bigger truck. and yeah i had some knock down drag out fights with titus will. when i was having my tranny worked on for a leaky seal. oh they fixed it 2 times.
