For a 1" spacer I would consider a 4 hole phenolic spacer.
Phenolic provides the greatest heat isolation. Aluminum transfers too much, plastic is tough to seal after a few heat cycles, wood,,,,,is wood, yeah.
Additional plenum volume with the velocity of the 4 hole spacer is better achieved by using phenolic.
If you have basic tools and can drill a few holes, you can make several for the same money.
You can use a gasket as a template, and cut one yourself. The material itself is not very expensive. If you are only making one, it may not be worth the effort, but if you have a couple of buddies that would like them too, you could make a buck or two.

That would be a cool deal to do, although most of our tools are in storage 10 hours away. I will probally just buy the Edelbrock stuff.
