What is the correct psi off the shrader valve for our trucks?
I got 37psi while at idle and it had a good strong 600-700rpm idle.
I am trying to solve what seems to be a fuel starvation problem. While I have limited time I am hoping it isn't the fuel pump but I am thinking it is the pump.
at idle it runs strong. While I put it under a load it will starve and have a ticking sound coming from the bay.
Anyone have any other ideas on what might be the fuel starvation problem.
I am going to clean the FPR screen, but I TJ Beggs said that the screen was a return line to the tank and wouldn't cause the fuel restriction.
I noticed your signature says WVO conversion. How long have you been running WVO? Are you running it all the time? That stuff supercleans the fuel system and plugs fuel filters untill it's all cleaned out.
Pressure is not the only test for a fuel problem but it sounds like your pressure is too low, mine bounces between 50-70 @ idle. Are you useing a FP gage or a tire pressure gage?
Your FP may produce enough pressure at idle but not enough volume when you put the engine under a load.
I am running it part of the time, but right now I am not running any WVO. I have changed the filter two days ago.
I am using a tire guage and that is what gives me 37psi.
The lack of fuel is moderaltely noticed while on diesel, while on veggie it coughs and coughs after I get it hot then I have to pull over and stop then wait and then it runs just fine for a while then the problem returns.
you definately have low pressure. I would clean the screen too. I would also take the regulator apart like you were going to shim it but just make sure there isn't any junk in there.
I sure do have pics for you.
Here is a pics that shows the engine compartment. The two piece of the FPR that are labeled here are the restiction sensor and the pressure test port. The FPR is that entire assembly bolted to the side of the filter housing http://good-times.webshots.com/photo...99659029QDJYXr
To clean the screen you should remove the fuel filter and right where the FPR is bolted to the filter housing there is a hole there. the screen is in that hole. Use a small flat screw driver or q-tip to gently clean the screen off. Or you can remove the two 10mm head bolts that hold the FPR on and clean it that way. but the first way is easier the second is more thorough.
I think you need to check the FP with a good gage. A bicycle tire gage can't be trusted IMO. Even if you find the FP OK you could still have a volume issue, not enough fuel.
I cleaned the screen and not any better. All the shops around town are telling me the think the Fuel pump isn't going bad b/c it isn't leaking. Is this true with veggie?

Not so with either one, veggie or dino. You may not be getting enough volume. Place a long piece of rubber hose on the drain for your fuel filter. You can see it under the front of the truck on the passenger side of the engine block. Get a container (Glass is best) under the hose, open the drian valve and crank the engine. Pull #9 0r #22 fuse under the hood so it won't start. You should be getting a good healthy flow of fuel out of it. If it's dribbling the pump is shot or you have a restriction some where. Let the fuel in the glass container sit for a hour or two and see what it looks like.
There is a long drawn out procedure for testing the fuel pump flow but the above test has served me in the past for a quick check.
