all info on a 300 I6 to 460 engine swap
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Sep-02 AT 08:50 PM (EST)]i have a '94 f150 2wd w/ a 300 I6 and have just decided to swap in a new engine. I want to find a 460 or something else with roughly the same power OR MORE that will most easily fit the swap w/ easiest mods. I ideally want a 68-72 remanufactured 460 ANY info would be helpful on changes i will have to make like bellhousing, tranny, motor mounts, gears, rad., etc. what would be the best place to look for info on prices of engines, mods, and parts.

Hey Scott and welcome to FTE!!
Sounds like you have a pretty big project in mind. There are kits made to do this swap. You can find them at:
http://www.landlproducts.com/
The net is also full of webpages that folks who have done this swap put together to help others. I did a search on excite and searched for "460 engine swap" and got several pages that look to have good info. A couple of them are:
http://www.bigbronco.com
http://www.projectresponder.com/content.asp?cid=3&pid=9
Good luck,
Ron

The best start is find a complete 460 of the year you want, one with all the accessories. If possible, a donor car with the C6 will make everything a lot simpler and save you a bunch of money. That way you get all the trans, alternator and PS mounts and linkage.
I'd recommend you rebuild the engine and trans before even starting your swap. Check some of the past posts to determine which C6 tailshaft is required to mate with your transfer case. With the engine and trans ready to go, all you'll need is the following:
Econoline 460 oil pan
Econoline 460 oil pump/oil pump pickup
Motor mounts - I recommend L&L
Remote oil filter - L&L
L&L headers or Econoline exhaust manifolds
F250 carb linkage makes it easier
Your '94 has a computer controlled engine management system, so you'll need to perform some basic wiring for the ignition system of an early engine. Get a couple of books to make life easier.
I've been running 429/460s in a full-sized Bronco for 16 years. I've tried most of the shortcuts, F250 motor mounts, cheap remote oil filter, cheap headers and rubber lines for the remote oil filter. I recommend L&L parts for the swap because his stuff fits and is of high quality. You get what you pay for. No affiliation.
