ok, been reading the different posts on t/c manual lock up, but havent really come to a solid conclusion, if im right, i read you need to ground out the t/c wire to lock up the t/c, can some one explaine the simplest method
I just did mine about 2 weeks ago.. Locate the correct wire.. mine was violet with a yellow stripe same as stated on the link below. And it was in the plug section closest to the grille of the truck on mine....I used one of those plastic type splice conectors with the anti moister sealer stuff in them where you put over the wire you want to splice into and then the wire to the switch goes in the other open slot and then you squeeze the metal bar with a pair of pliers snap over the cover and your done. i didnt cut mine as i wasn't worried about the O/D light flashing. So after you locate the correct wire you can splice it run a wire from it to the switch, and the other wire from the switch to the ground. when it is grounded it will lock... here is a linky... http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/tclock.html
Its just like the page says you can test it with the brakes held on and in drive and when it grounds it will stall the truck...(will take about 1 second until it locks)
**edit. I didnt cut the wire and build the box like shown on the guzzle page because the flashing light won't bother me. It took me longer to clean off the dirt from the harness wires to tell the color of the wire than it did to wire up the switch and splice the wire.

for me, im using it with my exhaust brake, but for others, most lock the t/c once you get into second gear and it will stay locked, can inprove mileage, and feels like your making more power, but your really just getting it to the street faster.
I did it mostly as i don't really like the way the truck controls the lockup.. So when im around 20mph or so i lock it up... takes a lot less peddle to keep accelerating as you are not losing your power through the unlocked T/C. I havn't had many miles since i have done the mod, since my turbo is pulled to be rebuilt so i can't give any MPG difference #'s yet. But it has to help some moslty when going through towns where there is a 35mph limit and it won't lock up.
I built the box, it worked well never pulled a TC lock up code. I took the box out, since i never used it, the programming of the PCM did a better job then i could do locking and unlocking the convertor.
i don't have any pics.. and no camera to take them .. all i did was the same as inthe link above.. when he tells you to test if you have the correct wire "when he says ground out with the truck in gear and the breaks held firmly it should stall" so all i did was just put in a switch that when i flick it "on" it completes the ground and it will lock. So it will be locked no matter what.. you have to shut it off to come to a stop sign. And when the switch is off the PCM controlls it as normal. so its like this....
1.locate the voilet/yellow striped wire on the plug harness under the brake cylinder.
2. take one of the quick splice connectors so you don't need to cut the wire and connect a wire to run inside the cab to the splice connect and pinch with pliers and cover with the snap cover.
3. To test the correct wire if you want ( I triple checked the plug # and color a few times before trying this ) strip off a little from the end. get in the truck start it and put it in drive.. hold on the brakes firmly and then put the end of the wire on a good ground and it should stall the truck.
4. Now that it stalled and you know you have the correct wire. Run it through the firewall and into the footwell area. Now locate a place for your switch. Mount the switch.
5. Connect the wire from the engine compartment (spliced one) to the switch.
6. conect another wire to the switch and then connect it to the ground. I used small grounding screw close to where the radio is under the dash, it already had 2 wires grounding on it(from factory) so i knew it was a good ground to use.
7. check connections to make sure they are all good.
8. Make sure the switch is OFF if not when you start your truck and put it in gear it will get ugly lol.
I kept it simple.. The light flashign does not bother me.
So all you are doing is when you flip the switch is grounding out the wire like you did when you tested it. and when your switch is not "on" the pcm can controll it as normal. I really didnt want to take the time to do the mod by building the box and buying the parts since i wasn't sure if i would like it or not.... and I ended up liking it i just don't mind the flashing light so i'm leaving it that way.
anymore questions ask.
