Wheel Width ????

My 84 has stock steel wheels with a new set of 30X9.50R15 tires. I am going to go old school with chrome wheels and dog pans...I think the stockers are 6 in. wide..Can I go to an 8 in. wide wheel with no problem ?....or how wide ???...Thanks...Jv

Offset matters

What is the offset on your rim?

The extra width on mine is toward the outside. That's where you want it if you are going to run wider tires. I ran 31-10.50's on the stock rims, and when I turned a sharp turn in the parking lot, they would rub the radius arms. The chrome wheels don't do this with the same tire, since they set the tire out a little bit more.

I would order a 15x10 wheel that is made to fit your truck. Stock off the shelf with no custom backspacing.

For a 30X9.50R15 tire a 8" wide rim sounds right to me. A 10" might be a little wide and cause rubbing up front?

Stick your head under there and see if you have more than a 1/2" clearance from the rim and tire to the inner workings of the truck. Also turn the wheel full left and right and look under to see if you still have over 1/2" clearance.
