Wide rear wheel pictures

So I took my 64 out for a cruise the other day, and the passenger rear tire decided to pack it in. So now my search for wheel/tire options has been accelerated.

My original thought was 15" black steelies all around, but it looks like from reading here, that 7" wide is max before the fronts stick out of the wheel wells. So I may stick with the factory rims in front (painted black), and get some wider black steelies for the back.

So my question now, how wide to go in the back? I want the hotrod look, so should I go 10 wide, or stick with 8"? Does anyone have pictures (from behind the truck) showing how wide both sizes are (please list tire size too)?

Also does anyone have pictures of there truck with two different style rims front and back? Thanks.

I used 15x6.5 Dodge Ramcharger wheels with 235-75-15s on the rear, they look just like F100 oem wheels. Im going to move those to the front and get 15x8 wheels from Summit and run the same size tire on the rear. That will make my front and rear tracks pretty close to even and fill out the rear wheel wells.

This pic is oem wheels up front with 225-70-15s and 15x6.5 rears with 235-75-15s.

front: 225/70-15 on 15x6.5.
rear: 275/60-15 on 15x8

Aha, this one gives you a good view of the tires.

Love the look Charlie! You need some drag radials. Those BFG's are rock hard! What is your backspacing on the rear. Looks real nice.

It could definitely use drag radials. Some day...

Backspace is 3.5" but I also have a '68 big brake axle which I think has a little bit different width than stock.

Gotcha. So the drums are wider and not the axle? I just ordered some 3.5" BS wheels and probably could have gone less.

The drums are wider. Not absolutely certain if or how the other dimensions are different. I'm sure the info is out there, somewhere. I never had the original axle to compare.

Thanks for the pictures guys. Those 8" wide wheels look pretty good Charlie. That may be the route I go, especially since I will have the 5.5 wide fronts. Plus I dont know if I can justify the extra price of tires for 10 wide wheels. We will see though, still need to do some research.

Any pictures from the guys with 10" rear wheels?

See what you can find at a junk yard. Mine were $20, rusting chrome.

I tried to look up the wheel vintiques 62 series on Summits website, it looks like they don't carry them any more.

Jegs has a 15x8 for $88 and 15x10 for $104.

That's weird!! They were still there (on Summit) a couple of days ago but not today.... Now they only have Wheel Vintiques "accessories"

Wheel Vintiques still sells the Series 62. The design has changed and they no longer have the OE Ford centers.

I figured Wheel Vintiques still sells them, I was just surprised that Summit Racing seems to have stopped selling their wheels....maybe it wasn't profitable for them...

I have a picture of my project truck with black steel wheels and 16 x 7.5 tires. Problem is, I tried inserting the photo and was unable to do it. How do I insert photo?

(Personally my preference is for narow tires, eventually I will sell these tires and rims and look for narrower and taller tires.)
