The passenger side power door lock has died on my 2000 F-140 4X4 Supercrew. Started out with the power door lock not working. Changed the fuse and it would work a couple times, then the fuse would blow. Took it to my local independent shop (truck's out of warranty) and they replace the door actuator.
Worked for a couple of days, then the problem reappeared one morning. By the end of the day, I could not open the door at all from the outside, either using the remote or the key in the lock. Had to open it from the inside. Took it back and the shop fixed it again.
Another week goes by and the problem has reappeared again. Took it in yesterday and the mechanic now tells me the problem is the driver's side actuator and he wants to replace it.
My problem is that the driver's side door lock works. It responds to the remote while the passenger side does not. Seems to me that the problem is still in the passenger side because that lock post doesn't go up and down when I hit the remote or the door lock switch on the driver's door. Why would the mechanic tell me he needs to replace the one that apparently works and not change the one that doesn't seem to work?
Seems like we're in a "keep changing the part until we fix the problem" mode.
Any ideas from anybody on what the real problem is? Seems to me that the actuator failing is a symptom of a larger electrical problem somewhere. Thanks in advance for your replies...
All power and ground wiring to all doors on all vehicles goes thru the master switch (drivers door). If the master switch contacts or wiring breaks then the passenger or rear door switches will not be able to supply the requested current flow to the effected actuators.
