I apologize in advance for my ignorance with this question, but I am still learning my way around my rig. I have heard a lot of people talking about power elbows, but I am still not sure what they are. So, my question is: What is a power elbow, and what does it do? I see a lot of people have them, and I am just curious what the advantages to one are. Thanks for the input, and enlightening this diesel owner!
Thanks for the link, are there any warranty issues with running one?
It will depend on your local dealers attitude about mods, the power elbow is pretty benine but some dealers do not want to see any mods. May want to ask your local dealers opinion on mods.
As for the power elbow up-grade on 05-07 6.0, there is very little perfromance gain to speak of, the biggest gain is on the 03-04 6.0 that had an EGR throttle plate also installed along with the intake elbow.
That was my next question. Since I do have an '07, will I need to do anything fancy with it? Are there any connections, or butterflies or anything like that I need to worry about, or is it just take the old elbow out and put the new elbow in. I am kinda confused I guess....some people are talking about connections they have, and others are saying they don't have any. I just want to make sure I know what I am getting into. Thanks!
Only the 03-04 6.0 have an EGR Throttle plate. The throttle plate was removed on 05-07 6.0 engines and the intake elbow redisgned with less restrictions.
Thanks for the pic, that looks really nice! So all I have to do us unbolt the elbow, loosen the clamp, pull the old one out, and reverse to put a new one in? Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it!
Nevermind, I just found the installation procedure, that is really simple! As far as the fittings go, I don't have any gauges on my truck (yet), so it is not necessary for me to hook up any lines at this point....does that matter, or does it come with a plug for that hole?
2nd question is, is that the place where you would put in a boost line for an aftermarket boost gauge? I thought that the line would go closer to the turbo. Again, I'm sorry for all the ignorant questions, I am just still learning a lot on here! Thanks!
Yes, it comes plugged. Yes, it is where you hook the bost line in. If you look at my Guages pic gallery you will see I hooked it post Turbo BUT that was because I didn't have the Accufab elbow in at that time. Once I did install it there was no point to move. They say the best place is on the elbow as it is more truer measure of the boost.
