Some may remember my nightmare on my gauge installtion. Well I was thinking about an elbow a couple weeks ago and I went and looked to see if I had the true plugs on my throttlebody and I do. I noticed that my sending unit was'nt tapped on my factory elbow for my boost gauge. So I ran the wires down and the butchershop tapped into the intake manafold. I dont reckon it matter does it. My only reason in this post is someone said the elbow is more accurate, but is'nt going into the intake more true of what the intake is taking to combustion? If indeed going to the elbow is better then I believe I'm going to install an elbow.

I am not so sure it is tennis that is wearing out your elbow . . . A power elbow might just wear yours out!

You should be fine with the gauge taking its readings from the manifold. The only reason the Intake elbow is sited as the best location, is that it is easy to do and takes its reading directly from the manifold air, like your setup does. The better is refering to better than Tee-ing the boost hose to the Map sensor.

Related Question from a new owner. I have a 04 f250 6.0.

It sounds like the elbow may do me a bit of good. Any brands reccomended or suppliers?

Thanks for your time!

Thanks guys, I'm probably going to get the one from Dfuser, since I'm getting some 08 mirrors to replace my paddles.

Thanks, and your input is appreciated

exiled,

If you are Tee'd into the map sensor hose, it is a small vacuum hose up by the firewall. I thought you said they drilled and tapped the intake manifold in your previous post?

I was looking under the hood today doing my monthly checks, and I was looking at the elbow making sure I knew what I was getting into before I ordered my new power elbow. In the instructions from accufab, it says disconnect everything and rotate towards the firewall to get that bolt that is inserted in the plastic shroud to clear. I noticed between the elbow and the oil filter housing, there is another small cylinder with connector on top. It looks like the elbow will hit that "cylinder" (sorry, I'm not sure exactly what it is) when it is rotated toward the firewall. Is this a problem, or is there enough play in the rubber tubing from the intercooler to allow the elbow to rotate? Thanks again for all the advice guys, I really appreciate it!

pressure in the system is consistant throughout so any position is good for boost tap I take mine in line with the map sensor line as this was most convienient location to cut into dont get caught up in the most accurate location hoopla as the truth is the gauge cannot read fast enough to show the true fluctuation so what you see is actually a average pressure at any given moment.

nut1605, I just swapped in the power elbow from dfuser on my truck a couple weeks ago. It is really simple. The hardest thing I ran into was pulling the old elbow out of the intercooler tube, and putting the new one in. Even with the clamp loosened all the way it took a bit of ooomph to get it done. Tools I used were a 1/4" ratchet, 3" extension, swivel joint and I think 8mm socket. Then for the intercooler hose clamp a 3/8" torque wrench and 11mm deepwell socket. I loosened the hose clamp, removed the bolts in the elbow, and then rotated the elbow 180° so the opening was facing up. Then I pulled it out of the intercooler tube. Pulled the o-ring out of the old elbow and put it in the new one, and put the elbow in the intercooler tube. Rotated the elbow into place and tightened the bolts to the intake. Then tightened the hose clamp to 9ft-lbs on the intercooler pipe. Altogether it took about 10-15 minutes. I don't even think I scraped a knuckle which is odd for me

Question regarding the boost gauge. I used the power elbow tapped port for my boost gauge. After I did that, my boost needle vibrates from 25 lbs and up when under load. What is the cause of this ?

Sorry dude. I'll definitely have to disagree with you here. If you ever had turbo surge issues like I get then you'd know that the gauge reads pretty quickly. It's really obvious to see as you can see the needle bounce and feel it at the same time. Unless maybe you're talking about the factory gauge??
