Hello and it is good to be posting again. I haven't been able to get on here in awhile. I have a 1979 Ford F250 w/460. I don't drive it alot these days and when I went last week to start her up she wouldn't. The battery is fine and turns the engine over, when I pour a little Berryman's into the carburator it cranks up just fine. Until it uses up all the Berryman's that is. I am pretty sure my sending unit is ok since I saw a slight fuel leak where the fuel line goes into the carburator, which is the factory H 4180. I figure since I have fuel there that the sending unit is fine so I decided I would just change the fuel filter that goes into the carburator itself. I checked my Chilton's manual and the only fuel filter I see it listing is the one that goes right from the fuel line into the carb. I tried different auto parts stores and they all give me inline fuel filters, none that go directly to the carb. Does anyone have a part number for the one that goes right to the carb? I think this will fix my starting problems.
Fram G22a, that is the original filter that screws into the carb, the thread is about the same size as 1/8" pipe thread. They also had a G3428a? IIRC the threads on that filter # are larger than the G22a.
Come to think of it, can I just unscrew the line from the carb, throw away the old filter, put the line back on the carb, and install an inline filter?

Yes you can...
I like using the metal case inline filters (old school) but the clear plastic ones seem to work fine and have the advantage of being able to see the fuel.

You are talking about a sending unit, and that is not going to prevent gas from getting to , or in this case through the carb, Sounds to me like the filter is alright, but the needle, and seat are stuck, and not allowing fuel to get through the booster. If it can't find its way all the wau through the bowl it won't fire. have you checked to see if the floats were alright, or the bowl actually has fuel in it? If the needle is stuck closed you will never get any fuel, even with a new filter.
