Alright I found the AIS for $198. Was wondering how much more air flow does the AIS have over the 6637 or other intake systems. I know the 6637 has like 450 cfm but can't find any numbers on the AIS.
Also is the 6637 louder than stock as well is the AIS any louder??
The AIS, IIRC, is reportedly much quieter than the 6637, but I'm not sure how it compares with the stock unit. Probably not much different at all. Kwikkordead has run both, and you could always PM him and ask directly. I know he'd be glad to offer his insights.
Does the 6637 fit directly on the OEM air hose intake. ANd rest on the factory box or what? I've seen the pictures on the mods link but can't figure out what the 6637 is resting on. What keeps it in place??
Yes it fits on the stock intake tube of the later trucks. Some of the early trucks require a 120* bend of 4" OD pipe to get it in position. When you take out the stock air box, there is just enough room to lay the 6637 in its place. It's held in place by its sheer size -- the hood just touches the end and holds it down. Some guys use a piece of 4" OD pipe anyway to couple it even on the later trucks -- mine is just mounted directly to the intake tube with no problems. If you scuff the neck of the filter with rough sandpaper or file, the tube has something to bite into and it won't come off.
If you fit it on the neck of the filter, also use a clamp for insurance - dirt is not the turbo's friend.
I use the short piece of 4" pipe for my transition, and you can see in my avatar how I even have to **** it up on the turbo side for the hood to close. Tight fit. No wobble.
I knew on the 6637 mod some guys with 99's had used a 4" pipe for an adapter.
Here's another question on the AIS instead of the foam sleeve why couldn't some body do the zoodad up front. I was thinking like 3 2" holes instead of one big one if I do the AIS.
I'm on several hunting forums like Avery and others and this place is FREAKING BUSY compared to them.

Is that a good price on the AIS as well??
That's a pretty good price. I have seen in for up to $267 on some other websites. I just installed an AIS with a fender sleeve a couple of weekends ago and it seems to have given the truck a little more pep. You can check out the fender sleeve here
Using the fender sleeve should give you a little more airflow and maybe extra EGT reductions. I was going to do the 6637 but after reading one of Kwik's post about the turbo drone when hauling heavy I decided against it. However you can't beat the price of the 6637 mod, it's WAY cheaper than the AIS. Either way you decide to go you are getting better filtration and airflow than the stock airbox/filter.
Still offering FTE members a discount code when you PM me. Discount applies to the whole site which includes AIS and Foam Sleeve.
Thanks Guys
Yes, I took advantage of the deal that you offered me and I am very pleased with the AIS.
Let me offer my recommendation for Car Nut if you want to purchase an AIS kit, guys.
Hey guys, time to get my feet wet. I installed my 6637 yesterday in my 01' PSD. Took me all of 40 mins. from start to finish. I used a 3" sch-40 dwv collar instead of the 4" pipe. Worked great, it set inside the filter and inside the hose to turbo. Clamped it down, GREAT FIT, and so easy. I am doing the $2,000 mod. 3 gadge kit ordered today. What a great place to learn about my truck. Thanks for all the stuff.

So is the drone louder just under heavy hauling? I don't do that much hauling just driving. If the drone isn't that loud just normal conditions then I'll go with 6637.

I have an AFE stage two, which I cannot imagine would make that much sound difference between it and the 6637. I actually love the way it sounds, now i usually run around at 8500 #s, and tow skid loaders at a gcvw of 18k. I cant say as Ive ever been upset with the way it sounds. But I dont have any friends that ride with me to talk to haha. I actually turn the stereo down sometimes to listen to the truck. (yea im a motorhead) Now if it was my family truckster type deal, Id probably consider the AIS. Its really cheap to try a 6637, and run it, see if you like it, when it gets dirty, replace it with the AIS if you dont like it ya know. You wont waste really any money by trying out a 6637 for a little while.
