From what I recently found on researching the roller cam 351s, it seems that they first showed up in late 93, but strangely enough, all the Lightnings used a flat tappet cam. Maybe Ford didn't want to go to the expense of making a roller version of the lower volume Lightning cam.
I would think that the 94 and 95 Lightnings would indeed have a roller cam [compatible] block, with the flat tappet cam installed. The roller cam compatible block has a casting number beginning with F4TE.
Nope, no roller cams from the factory in the 93-95 Lightnings. The F4TE blocks started showing up in those truck in mid 93 in those trucks though.
Also, it isn't difficult to do a roller cam conversion to a F4TE/351 block. The spider, lifters and dogbones from any rollerized 5.0 will work on a 5.8. Roller cams started showing up in mid 96 to 97 in the F-250/5.8's so you could go to a parts store and buy them from that year/model.
I thought you could only run a solid roller cam in those pre roller blocks due to the short lifter bore?. The hydraulic lifter, being longer, would stick out of the bore?. That's what I understood, is this right? I love this site! Thanks guys! BOSSED
Anybody else want to chime in? QUOTE=bossed]I thought you could only run a solid roller cam in those pre roller blocks due to the short lifter bore?. You can run a roller cam in either type block. The older blocks require link-bar type lifters and the newer blocks have taller lifter bores to accept a Ford roller lifter assembly.

Matt, thanks for the reply. I didn't know the later blocks had taller lifter bores. What type of throttle body, intake pipe, air filter set-up do you have on your truck? Reason I'm asking is I have a complete Lightning motor out of a wrecked truck and was wondering what type of set-up I may encounter. My truck is a 94 F150 with a 302 with mass air. How much trouble will I have making the swap to mass air on the Lightning motor, I should be able to use my computer? Thanks Brian!!
