I am thinking about replacing the two front door handles on my F-350 with two rear ones to get rid of the lock cylinders (both doors have one). I am just curious how easy this is to accomplish? Is it quick and easy, or is it rather involved? I have an alarm that obviously unlocks the door when I disarm it, if I put on the handles without the lock cylinders, will it mess any of my alarm stuff up?
Also, I am interested in putting the smooth body painted door handles on all the way around, like on the KR. I have the oxford white paint color, so does anybody know if the dealership sells these? And if so, how much? Thanks for the help!
On my 2001 it is real easy to get the door handles off. Just remove the door panel and take a look in there. I think there is like two nuts holding it on there.
I got my painted set from diesel performance.com I don't think they have them anymore. But you might beable to get a set from these guys. www.powerstrokeshop.com Just email them. There site can be hard to navigate... they are the same handles as the excursion, king ranch, and harley editions...
When you do this go ahead and order those jimmy jammers too and install them! Just for a little more security...
I want to do the same thing but with black, I have a SuperCab so I only need 2.
The no keyhole look would look nice and clean.. but I would really be concerned if the battery went dead in the truck or in the key fob.
I called a Ford dealership yesterday and he quoted me around $65 for each door, he also said the rear crew cab door handles wouldn't fit on my front doors because they are a different size but I don't believe that.
be interesting to see what happens with a dead battery
Good point. Even those with the keypads will be out of luck.
I have to confess, I use the fob to unlock my truck all the time and when I came out one day after work to go home the battery had died in my fob. I stood there for a moment trying to figure out how the heck I was going to get into my truck until I realized I had the damn keys in my hand! To make it a really senior moment I also have the keypad........Doh!.......
I haven't yet had a battery go dead in any of my trucks (they're going to die tonight, I know!), so I am not worried about a dead battery, and I have a battery gauge on my alarm key fob that I never let it get below half, so I am not worried about that either. I would rather have a little more security on my Super Duty seeing as how I live 45 miles from the US/Mexico border and deal with the dead batteries when they happen.
the door handles are easy to replace, two 7mm screws in the door panel and it lifts off, one behind the light, one behind the control panel thing that just pops up from the front. then two 11mm nuts holding the handles in. and of course popping the rods off the handles. Simple simple though.
