Truck broken into........

Well, I got the pleasure of getting into my truck and realizing things weren't right. Someone broke my door handle and got into my truck. They didn't get anything out of the truck except some jalepeno jelly and sunflower seeds I had on the center hump. (jackasses) Thanks to my alarm they couldn't get away with much.

Now I need to replace my door handle.
1) Should I replace both sides with handles that don't have keyholes?
Just like the rear door handles on crew cab trucks. Only thinking about that because they broke the handle by putting a screwdriver in the keyhole.

2) Shave the doorhandles?

3) Go to the stealership to get a new lock and cylinder?

Get the lock replaced, and add some jimmi jammers to all your doors. Thieves can still pry a screwdriver under your doorhandle and pop the door open even with no keyholes but these will stop them from getting through the doorhandles completely:

They are about $35-$40 per pair, so double that for a crewcab because you need them on all doors. They are not hard at all to install and come with very good instructions.

them jimmy jammers are not the solution and can be easily bent with a screw driver a nd defeated.. u might however slow the thief down a few seconds. but it will cause allot more damage to your door when they bend that plate.

Well for that matter even if the jimmi jammers did work exactly as they were supposed to and could not be defeated a thief could still break a window or something. Bottom line is that if a thief wants in, he can get in

I think the best thing is just to take/hide your valuables and not make your truck look too attractive to thieves. I know some people who just leave their truck unlocked so the thieves can see there is nothing of value (personally I think thats a little extreme though)

why buy the jammers then to have more damage? i would just leave it stock.. and liek you say dont leave a bunch of valuable in there.. or leave it unlocked so they can see there isnt anything worth stealing.

Yeah, I agree with you, the jimmi jammers are a good idea , but in practice they probably don't help and might actually hurt.

The only reason I don't leave my truck unlocked is that I'd be afraid that it might invite thieves who just steal truck parts (ie airbags, stock radios, etc...) who would just otherwise pass up the opportunity, but i dunno...

The real answer is to get rid of the thieves

Im suprised my truck hasnt been broken into...
I have the shock sensitive alarm, so if you bang on it it chirps...
I forget about it, open the tailgate and it always goes off

Oh and Im in SA too!

oh come on there cant be that much crime in texas! after all you an shoot people over personal property there.

Actually, you were "lucky", that is if one can be lucky after being broken into. I wish the theives would've just popped the lock cylinders out on mine.

Instead, they did the 'ole screw driver UNDER the door handle - which left nice pry marks on the sheetmetal & the door handles. To top that off, they tried both doors before really going after the drivers door.

So ... off to the lowest-bidder Body Shop ... and these guys make the truck look WORSE than it did before I took it in!! I'll probably end up having to skin the drivers door!

Anyway ... my opinion on the fix ... replace the handles with the rear door style if your comfortable with relying on your keyless remotes / door keypad.

they can still pry that crappy handle away from the skin and make everything looks terrible!

Hey biggrey, I'm chaddiesel on saoffroad forum. I changed names because I wish I could change it on this site too.

I'm thinking about putting rear door handles on them so that there is no door lock rod going up to the handle, thus no break in whenever they pry. I'm just gonna make up some clever way to get into the truck whenever I really should be using the key in the door.
